I think Tobi/Madara is actually a figment of Kishi's imaginatio. And maybe infact Kishi himself inside the story! The Creation meets the Creator!

shisui's right eye was stolen from danzo and shisui new itachi was all for kanoha but had to do all this ugly work to make the country what it is...bla bla bla.. so Shisui then entrusted the other to Itachi telling him to protect the village and in order to prevent conflict from arising over his eyes, made it appear as though he had crushed them before dying. itachi forged a suicide note for him making it really not convincing.. any way check out naruto shonen jump. the story of sasuke and his brother. I think its called brothers: distance among the uchiha

Okay it can't be Obito. Does everyone remember how Obito gave Kakashi one of his eyes...well remember when Tobi used Igzani (bad spelling), he HAD two eyes (one being blocked by the mask) then we saw it close forever. Obito had 1 eye Tobi HAD 2 eyes so therefore its NOT Obito

This is a awesome theory. Very well done with the info you had at your disposal at the time.
Although #4 seems like an invalid argument now since Tsunade thinks that Tobi is immortal.
One other thing I noticed about Tobi was that the Kyuubi recognized him, by saying "YOU!", when Tobi took control of him when kushina's seal was breaking.
This is EXTREMELY significant since the Kyuubi has been sealed up in two different Jinchuuriki's, before Naruto, for a certain amount of time. There is no way he could have gotten to know anyone else in that span of time.
From the time Madara controlled the Kyuubi these are the people the Kyuubi came into close enough contact with (in chronological order):
1. Uchiha Madara (was controlling it at the valley of the end)
2. Senju Hashirama (fought it, and probably helped seal it)
3. Uzumaki Mito (became its jinchuuriki after Madara lost it)
4. Uzumaki Kushina (became its jinchuuriki after Mito)
5. Tobi (Helps the seal break and takes control of Kyuubi)-This when tobi is recognised
6. Namekaze Minato
7. Uzumaki Naruto
8. Uchiha Sasuke
This means for Tobi to be recognized by the Kyuubi means Tobi and the Kyuubi met either before the Madara VS Hashirama battle or Tobi IS Madara.
Even if Tobi is not Madara, this would still mean that Tobi is definitely MUCH older than Kagami.

The motives Madara revealed as the bases for his actions seems valid.
Here's some facts that puts some weight towards hTobi actually being Madara.:
- The source of his hate seems to stem from the time around the founding of
Konoha
- The shape of the EMS of his Jinchuuriki-Pain.
- His hate for Hashirama.
- His hate for the Senju, specifically, and the Will of Fire.
- His ability to control the Kyuubi.
- Minato came to the conclusion that he is Madara without being told.

- He asks Kushina if she has any idea how long he's been waiting. i.e.
for his chance to obtain the Kyuubi and unleash it upon Konoha.
- Itachi doesn't seem to have any doubts about Madara's official identity.

- He seems to know more about past events than anyone else. (confirming
his age)
