Does anyone here know how to effectively deal with office politics?

It's starting to get really annoying at my new job that I love.

It's like people can't stand someone who is ''different'' from them (I'm a introvert and mostly everyone else is a extrovert in my workplace.) So yeah, I don't talk up a storm and let my work suffer.

Like what gives? I thought we all left the bullying back in high school?

Or does the fact that being on your own and having to manage your own finances completely change you as a person up to the point where you try to screw other people over when they probably have other financial obligations like to there own kids for example? Do people act like this because we live in a Capitalist nation where there is hardly any safety nets and you gotta work like a dog just to survive? Mostly everyone nowadays is living paycheck to paycheck.

I'd take it this is just one of the harsh realities of adulthood that I'll have to deal with (in my early 20s).

Unbelievably sad really.

You switch the subject back to work or you stay away from it. You should never talk about your finances at work.

That's what I'm going to do is stay away from it even if they try to suck me into it.

And yes you should never talk about your finances at work. What I said about finances, is that I'm surprised people would try to sabotage your sources (like trying to get you fired) when people got kids they need to take care of us. It's a scumbag move to make.

Those people are ambitious and greedy. They have no sympathy for others. It's a sad reality.

i actually have a funny story regarding something similar. before i got signed i had three jobs, which i got fired from all of them...but anyways the second one i had was entering warranties at this corporate office for Toyota

so this girl who was like the leader of our team was super jealous of me because the boss above her liked me, was always trying to pitch these lame flirt tactics on me. i didnt like him at all but i guess it made the other chick resent me. so she started purposely trying to screw my work over so id make mistakes, she was basically trying to get me fired and it was really hard to prove. it was really starting to bother me because i was saving up money to buy equipment for a EP i was trying to make to send around and she kept tampering with the warranties she would send me so id enter the wrong info

so i always carry a switchblade that i got from my older brother around with me, one day during my lunch brake i went into the parking garage and slashed all of her tires out. she was so defeated with dealing with that she forgot about the petty beef she had with me and i was victorious for a few months..i wouldve gotten away with it too but everyone was talking about it for a while and i wanted credit. so i told this one guy who i use to talk about manga with and he told someone else, while telling them apparently the girl whose tires i thrashed over heard them talking about it and went to the manager

like a good psycho nobody excepted me to do something like that, so my boss just didnt believe her till one day she got the security guard to show her the tape from that day. and it was clearly me on the video, it was kind of funny to watch i admit but yeah i got fired

I think it is because of Capitalism also since your economic status completely falls on you and the fact it's all about maximizing as much profit as you can even if that means screwing other people over.

Women for example know they can use *** as a weapon against men in the workplace and so you'll see some secretaries try to seduce the boss in order to get a pay raise and get job security. Or you got your ''office feeders'' who try to fatten up other women to make herself more attractive to men in the workplace.

So yeah once you're on your own, money usually completely changes your way of thinking which is fine until you start stealing money from blind people and try to sabotage other people's jobs.

Those people are ambitious and greedy. They have no sympathy for others. It's a sad reality.
I think it's fine being ambitious if you're looking to get into some career but the way you have to do it nowadays seems like you got to play dirty which is incredibly sad.

I honestly think it should be all about your work ethic, if you meet the qualifications for the job, and if you can sell yourself well in the job interview (Why should I hire you over other people who applied for the job also? etc)

It shouldn't have to be ''I got to build connections and know the people in the company so they can let me in'' crap that's going on right now.

[Sub]We live in a world where killing is rampant. Killing, killing, and killing. It has reached the point where the person who is being killed doesn't know what he is being killed for, and the person who is killing doesn't know why he is killing them. We live in a world where world leaders, i.e. presidents and kings, are deceiving the mass and oppressing the minority. We live in a world where we are taught to be slaves for money. We live in a world where men rape and abuse their daughters. We live in a world where a father and a daughter watch television, and after some time passes, they fornicate. We live in a world where women falsely accuse men of rape so that they receive fame and public sympathy, and the men are fired from their jobs and publicly castigated - even after the court of law declares that they are innocent. We live in a world where married men idly stand by and watch as their spouses fornicate with (multiple) other men (or women). We live in a world where women actively seek out to marry rich men so that they can divorce them and reap from the divorce settlement. We live in a world where women allow themselves to be impregnated by someone else and then never tell their spouse that the child is not theirs. We live in a world where men and women grossly neglect their aged parents - even though it was them that nurtured and nursed them when they were small, defenseless beings.

Now tell me: with all of these atrocities occurring daily in the world, why are you surprised that people actively go out of their way to get you fired?[/Sub]

I'm surprised because this is my first time experiencing it and I would think people would know better. We enslave ourselves to the system we made and once people get bored of it, they'll start to do what you just listed since hey you have one life and you may as well have fun with it instead of working like a dog and end up buried in the ground anyways.

People don't grow up. Even in the military there are those who act like complete children. It's very pathetic.

[Sub]The first time is always a surprise, but from there on you just need to expect the worst in people. Not saying you should become a pessimist, but you should always be fully prepared for people to go from 0 to -100 real quick. In this word no one truly has your back; only you do. Look out for yourself brotha[/Sub]

What is your point?

How is that even YOUR problem, what someone else is doing? I think that's the problem...

either you're worrying about things that have nothing to do with you, or you just take things too personal. You haven't made it clear as to WHAT the actual problem is.All that stuff you're worrying about, all that idealism...it's totally unnecessary.

Do your work, and stop worrying about other people.Keep it cordial, keep it friendly(as possible)..but GET THE WORK DONE.All those people at those jobs are just there to network and get attention.Focus on your priorities, not others.

Get your mind right, kid. Too much pressure and low self-esteem.

Stereotypes

Please...do not speak of something you don't actually know of. You're just painting a terrible picture, that isn't even the entire truth.

You act like everyone's divorcing, everyone's raping, everyone's killing...etc...stop painting this terrible picture. And please do not let that kind of explanation be the basis of your understanding of reality. It's not even REAL, it's assumed.

The problem is the office politics in the workplace and how people do it to screw others over. Pointing that out doesn't mean I have low self esteem since I accept myself for who I am or I'm taking things "too" personal.

You can get your message across without taking shots at me.

That is so vague, as you haven't told us exactly WHAT was done to YOU, that has your head spinning.

Pointing that out doesn't mean I have low self esteem since I accept myself for who I am or I'm taking things "too" personal.

I think, they think, you think your better than them. Perhaps, maybe, they feel you're trying to make a statement by "staying out of chatter, and focusing on the work"...perhaps it comes across as an insult...do you feel like you're insulting them? You could at least introduce yourself or acknowledge them. You are in a work place, among people...

You can get your message across without taking shots at me.

I don't know what that is, I have nothing personal against you.I spoke from a common place.

[Sub]Where exactly did I say it was my problem in my original post? I simply stated facts. And even then, I am more than qualified to make it my problem, as I share this planet with them.[/Sub]

[Sub]My post didn't imply any anxiety, and one doesn't need to take things personally to simply state true observations. Moreover, there was no idealism in my post, so I haven't a clue where you got that from.[/Sub]

[Sub]Not sure if you have an issue with understanding basic literature, but my post - in a nutshell - questioned him as to why he was surprised someone would actively carry out a small crime against him when there are bigger atrocities happening this instant. As for your last part, thank you for expressing concern about my life, but I don't think I need advice from someone who can't structure clear, coherent sentences, and struggles with basic comprehension. I've seen some of your posts around this site, and needless to say, you're a bit of an idiot. I'm not like the others you attempt to patronize, I'm far more - at the risk of sounding conceited - intelligent than you; attempting to start nonsense with me will not end well for you, especially if you come at me with your typical 'your post is premeditated/rehearsed' response. Stay in your place, kid.
