Simple question ....remember current generation , what's your answer?
Mine:
1) Shikamaru
2) Sakura
Now I know what you're thinking:
"Sakura?

Then you're probably going to say:
"Sakura ain't the smartest, cause of Sasuke!"
Hear me out now:
The girl is pretty much a genius
~Above average high scores in academy
~Able to answer all questions on the exam portion of the chunin exams, she was praised by Ibiki
~Booby trap knowledge
~Extensive knowledge of poisons
~Above Average analytical, observation, and evasion skills (she's a medical nin, need I say more? Look at how she dodged all those puppets fighting sasori)
~When the white zetsu infiltrated, she was able to determine that not only was the infiltrator not using a transformation technique, she was able to fool "neji" and incapacitate him. Then she extracted information out of the white zetsu pertaining to it's technique, and figure it out on her own based on prior knowledge

At least that's my reasoning. I'm open to rebuttals or what not.
