Of Tales and Tastes
The Candymaker
Chapter 7
As she laid on the silky smooth sheets of the bed, she had none of her initial rigidness and defiance. Yet she kept the intense intelligent look in her eyes, filled with passion. Her long white hair was draped across the mat, and her naked skin had the taste and look of sweetmilk. It was an effort to seduce her, but it paid off. She was the epitome of Kaguya perfection. The Candymaker kissed her lips one last time, feeling the essence of cream in its tongue, so rich and intense as her hand on his abdomen. It send across its skin, shivers of pleasure. The flavors of the bedroom were inebriating and lush, yet cool and fresh. They kissed again.

The main building of the Kaguya clan was a great white pagoda tower made entirely with bone. It is said the founder of the Kaguy clan created it when he liberated the Kaguya from the first demons of the Maternal Mist, and it’s sharp center-pillar pierced through the heart of the beast, freeing the sun and receding the mist. It was doubtless the mist found no home in there, as the sun fell down bright upon the temple, making the bone shine like milky gold. As Kemono entered, the Great Elders were sitting stiffly with disdain in their eyes. The eldest, a tall crane with a face rippled with milky wrinkles and long white hair, began, with hatred in his voice, betraying his seemingly calm demeanor:
“How dare you?”
“I did what I must.”
Kemono’s eyes were as fearsome as ever, yet his stance was as poised as it was expected from a Kaguya. Another elder spoke, more softly than the first, yet his eyes hadn’t lost the wildness of his clan.
“No outsiders are to enter the Kaguya grounds.”
“Yet these foreigners are currently our allies.”
“If you’ve come to believe that the Kaguya are so low as to need aid from those slimes…” The first continued. “Then perhaps we chose the wrong Head of Clan”
“But I am the Head nonetheless, and you would do well to remember that, Komotaru-Sensei.”
The old man grew solemn, eye ablaze with fury, yet said not another word. Kemono took all the elders in, spreading his voice to all of the room.
“Too much of our kin has fallen to the hands of the Candymaker. It is now our utmost duty to catch this demon and slay it like the beast it is.
His words, like his eyes, cut through the air like a cold dagger.
“It is in our best interest to welcome the outsiders, as it is in theirs to not betray our trust. We have a common cause, but we are still Kaguya. We shall allow them on our land, but shall never lose sight of their blades. And-”
The sliding door of the temple opened with a slam, and a tall and slender figure appeared against the outside light.
“Oh, a gatherin’ of old geezers, and here I was expectin’ a splat o’animals”
The Elders in the room quickly stiffened their stances, showing nothing more than the calm and controlled stance of the Kaguya, yet their eyes were ablaze with fury. Kemono was taken aback, yet showed no more than a twitch of his eyebrows before his stance returned to normal.
“Milia.”
The slimey Hozuki woman moved inside the temple, and even the oldest of the elders gasped at the outrage. Nala followed closely.
“Missed me?" The hozuki woman winked, before she continued. "So, Kemono, did ye tell ‘em why we’re here? They don’t seem too excited. We’re here to kill the Candymaker. We think he’s a Kaguya.”
The Kaguya men were shocked. Even Kemono could not hide the outrage well, although he had been there when she revealed it, in the plaza of the Settlement. Nala, couldn’t help but smile sardonically, as she brushed a braid of hair behind her ear. Kemono started walking towards Milia when Ota stepped inside. Nala gave him a quick glance and smirked even more. At sight of the man, Kemono’s eyes filled with disdain, yet his stance grew calm and controlled again. Even the elders seemed more relaxed. Ota went past Milia, who was smiling just the same as her counselor.
“I’m sorry for entering your savored grounds. On behalf of the Settlement of Yuugyo, we pay our respects.”
He bowed his head softly, yet his presence was as powerful as always. The eldest of the elders spoke first.
“Temujin Otaghen”
“In the flesh”
“An’ on behalf of the Hozuki clan, what’s he says”
“Thank you” Kemono’s eyes did not cross Milia, choosing to ignore her. “And now, we shall discuss the Candymaker”
The council of elders stood up simultaneously. They nodded to Kemono and then left through the sideways door, leaving them alone. As Kemono started instructing the servants, Nala approached Ota’s ear.
“We pay our respects, very noble of you”
Her breath tasted like a water lily, and her hair like a lotus flower. Ota smiled, his eyes flirty and intense as they crossed hers. He said nothing, and Nala moved away from the room. Their exchange was unnoticed by Kemono, yet Milia frowned. As Ota sat, she kept her gaze on him, to which he responded with the same passionate and soothing look.
