Hello everyone. I haven’t gotten any feedback about the first chapter (It’s lacking in detail and will probably be revised further into the book), so I decided to post the second one to add to your day! Please, leave some feedback!

* * Cyrus’s POV * *

My name is Cyrus. I don’t think I’ve ever said much about myself other than that. My full name is Cyrus Tyrone Patterson, but here, I’m just calling myself Cyrus. I was born on May 12, southern New Jersey in a new hospital that was built a year and a half prior to my birth. They said I looked like an old man when I first came out, because my skin was all wrinkled. Doctors said that a lack of protein caused it, or something around the lines of that. I weighed in at 7.2 pounds and 19.6 inches, around the average height and weight for a child. I lived 3 years of my life in New Jersey before I moved down to Maryland, attending school and making friends there. It was 2 weeks before the incident that my eyes began bothering me. It was like pain was going from my brain to my eyes in a consecutive pattern, and it was anything but pleasant. I excused myself from class far too often, double and even triple checking if there was something in my eyes. There never was. I was actually supposed to get surgery the day after the incident because it was bothering me so much.

ANBU Black Ops led me through the streets of Konoha in complete silence. I had so much on my mind, yet none of it would be answered for at least the next month. The biggest question, to me, was “Why am I here?” I felt like that would never be answered. Little things like “I wonder how chakra works”, and “I wonder how much weapons cost” flooded through my head, but the number 2 thing on my mind was “What arc in Naruto am I in?” I wanted to be near the beginning, at least before the Chunnin exams. I did NOT want to be at their graduation, though. I felt like I needed to be on one of Konoha 12’s teams.

I didn’t expect much when we had entered the Hokage’s mansion. The entrance was grand, a fully open space with several reclining chairs, and hallways branching out below the upper balcony. Two large, twin staircases enclosed from the edges of the main entrance up to the double-doors above, most likely leading to a hallway. The ANBU lead me up a set of staircases, and through a door on the upper balcony. Through the door was a curved hallway, and down that hall was the Hokage’s office. We walked to the end of the hall, the two ANBU exchanging nods before knocking on the Hokage’s door.

“Come in.” A raspy voice said. I could tell just by the voice who it was. Hiruzen, alive and well, but aged.
The ANBU led me inside and dropped my dead on my ass. I glared at them, but they just shrugged me off. Sighing in defeat, I turned to the Hokage, my eyes begging him to either slap the ANBU, or untie me from my restraints.

“State your name and business, child.” He said simply, signaling the ANBU to untie me. Dear god, these things were finally off me. Don’t ask me why, but the moment I left that tree, those guys slapped seals, barriers, and everything else onto me to prevent me from moving. They do an aggressively good job at protecting Konoha.
“Cyrus.” I finally responded. “My name is Cyrus, and I’m here…”

I didn’t even have a concrete reason. I needed something, fast. Something that’s elaborate and will help me stay long enough to plan my life for as long as I am here.

“I’m here to join the village and become a ninja.” Wow. So cliché it hurts. The hell was I thinking? Then again, it’s not like I could say something like “I’m a 14 year old chef who came here to work at Ichiraku ramen!” or something. But maybe, just maybe, that would have worked…

“Really now? That’s surprising, seeing as I can’t even sense your chakra.” He said questionably.

I stared at him blankly. The entire basis of being a ninja was to combine physical and spiritual energy to form jutsu, and now I can’t even use chakra? The only ninja who successfully lives without using chakra is Rock Lee. Guy sensei would be a close second, but he still knows ninjutsu.

“I’m learning taijutsu for now.” I stated. That’s a start. “I’ll learn from the best, then start learning ninjutsu and genjutsu. I’ll be more valuable if I focus on sections rather than all of them at once.”

The Sandaime Hokage looked at me with a mixed face. Part of him looked like he wanted to agree on some very strict terms, while another looked just about ready to kick me out of the village before something bad happened. My persuasion wouldn’t get the best of him, so I needed something to happen. Fast.

And with that, a young boy with spiky blond hair was thrown into the room, tied down with ropes and several seals, only followed by an angry man with a scar on his nose, and his hair tied back into a ponytail.

“Naruto!” Both Iruka and I yelled at the same time. We looked at each other awkwardly before he went back to yelling at Naruto for aimlessly throwing smoke bombs on the roof of the academy.

“Naruto, you’ll be turning 10 tomorrow! You’re getting WAY too old for this kind of idiocy! You need to cut it out and learn how to take some responsibility!” Iruka yelled, oblivious to the entire situation that was unfolding in front of him.

I got a good picture of what was going on in Konoha now. Hiruzen was still old, but younger none-the-less. Naruto was 10, and it was a day before his birthday, and Iruka was pissed off at Naruto for another prank.
It was October 9th, 1997. At least, in real-world terms. Here, it was just October 9th. The day before Naruto’s 10th birthday.

“How do you know of Naruto? Answer me!” Hiruzen yelled, standing up from his chair and positioning himself directly in front of me. There’s nothing to say at this point. I was going to die for knowing exclusive information. Hiruzen probably thinks I’m after him, another person going for the Kyuubi. In that sense, I was ready to get up and run, but someone stopped me before I could do something stupid.

“Hey, I remember you...” Naruto said, more to himself, but loud enough for everyone to hear.

“Hmm?” The Hokage questioned, clearly intrigued by Naruto’s input.

“Yeah, he was in my room last night.” Lies. “He said that he would come see me on my birthday.” More lies. “But you’re here a day early…”

The shift back in time was phenomenal enough, but what was even weirder was Naruto lying about me seeing him. That was, unless, I actually DID see him last night. A dream, maybe?

Hiruzen stopped the conversation and looked directly at me, and yet, spoke to Naruto.

“Naruto, can you vouch for this boy’s presence in Konohagakure?” He asked.

“Yeah, I can. He knows me, too.” Naruto replied. Holy shit, the dumbest ninja in the entire series just saved my ass. I still don’t get it, though. I’ve only watched Naruto on my phone and TV, so how does he know me?

“What do you have to say for yourself, Cyrus?” Hiruzen asked, interrupting a brief silence that had filled the room.
I sat there, still confused and craving for answers to my newly sprouted tree of questions. None of this was making sense, and the longer I was here, the more questions filled my head. Dumbfounded from the earlier moments, I responded simply.

“Yes, I know him.”

“Good.” Hiruzen concluded, a smile on his face. Was it really that simple? Am I really a part of Konoha now?

“Now take this child to interrogation. Seeing how much trouble Naruto gets in, we need to make sure that this man doesn’t negatively influence him in any way. Also, figure out what his chakra issue is. I need to know immediately, as he could easily be sealing something inside of him and suppressing it effectively.” Hiruzen ordered.

Time stopped for me. Everything felt dull and senseless. I was about to be interrogated for something that I have no connection to, and even worst, they we’re probably going to put me under the knife to find out what’s wrong with me.
Naruto was yelling at Hiruzen in the background, but I was too lost in thought to focus on that. I snapped back into reality when I was tied up again, thrown on my ass for the second time, and sitting on a metal floor in the middle of a dark room. One light was hanging from the ceiling, and a mirror was placed against the wall. I didn’t even have to wait for someone to walk into the room to know what was going to happen.

I was going to have a session with Konohagakure’s own Ibiki Momochi.

* * Naruto’s POV * *

I knew him.

Why didn’t the Hokage believe me? I saw him, I talked to him, I even sang with him on one occasion. I know good and well I was never in a genjutsu, and I knew even better that he wasn’t planning on hurting me. Everyone else in the village would treat me like I was worthless, but he smiled when he saw me. He would wave and smile and act like a brother. So why is he being interrogated?

Iruka released me after punching me as hard as he possibly could on the head. I couldn’t go to the interrogation room without being taken to the Hokage’s office again, so I decided to go to Ichiraku Ramen to spill out my feelings.

“Ah, Naruto!” Tenzou said as I approached the ramen shop. “Come right in. Will it be the usual?”

I sat down, nodding as Tenzou began making some Miso Ramen. My mind was in such a haze, but I was content on one simple thing.

I was going to rescue him.
