Remember when everyone was asking why Dogtooth wasn't using his insane trident? Ok. Oda shows us him using it to pierce Luffy, so it's proof that he's not being nerfed right? NOPE, he ends up stabbing himself after and not using the trident anymore. We see that even when gaining more observation, Luffy can't consistently dodge Kata's punches or enlarged and elongated limbs, so how come an earlier Luffy could consistently dodge the less space intensive trident? Oda, why don't you want Kata to use his trident properly?

Well thought out... Only sound reasoning I can think of is that he didn't want to use it again after the unfair advantage it gave him and took away from him xD

Because the trident is possibly easier to dodge than Dogtooth's fists? A trident is a thrusting weapon, meaning you pull it back and forth in normally a straight line. Dogtooth's fists however are all over the place, his mochi powers allow him to attack from a large variety of angles in a wide field. And as with most long thrusting weapons, if you miss, you're open (though this is not really elaborated on in the fight). As I see it, Dogtooth uses his trident to focus an enormous amount of power into the tip of his trident, but this lacks the versatility of his hand-to-hand combat.

But as stated above I think Dogtooth simply threw away his trident to be on equal footing with Luffy.

This is correct, especially seeing as to how he boosts it with his Mochi power and his arm sprinfliads back beforehand. Luffy can see the future now similar to how he can so perhaps it wouldn’t be effective
