Is it possible that the goal to save the world is exactly already happening. Through his actions he's become the greatest villain in the ninja world , and doin so united the ninja world in a way never seen before,
all Kage one goal
Is the world saved already , did he start this planning to lose eventually, he needed to be army so strong the only way to win is join forces, and in turn brings forward other global villains to be taken out, is he the hero of this story doing evil for the greater good . You d have to think after this ninja relations will be improved and remain allies , and the end of pointless death is what he's started he wants already

cuz if he loses , everybody or somebody would eventually want revenge for something done in the past,

yeah its foolish, but he's been trying for so long.......and Rin is who he wants to see the mmost, so he can relive his childhood
happiness maybe, he wants everybody to not share the same fate as rin....
