You don't think that if they were on some type of mission and Naruto watched Sakura die that he wouldn't be tempted to go down Obito's path? When Jiraya died dude was close to the edge and it almost came out when he saw Pain. But he's in love with Sakura so wouldn't that be enough, especially with no Iruka there to comfort him but instead a smooth talker, to do it?

The reason why he didn't turn evil was because of Iruka, Jiraiya, Kakashi and Sakura
Obito didn't have anyone that partly acknowledged him and knowing the uchiha clan they probably would have pushed him away, so he only had madara and zetsu

I just wondered if losing Sakura like Obito lost Rin might push him over the edge. The fact that he has all those other people as a support system would have kept him from going too far dark whereas the Uchiha are more likely to hate. I get that now.

That AMV made me look at the character a little differently. I already thought the story was tragic, but that put it more in perspective for me. I'd love it if Obito got some more shine on his descent into the darkness for the reason you said... long as they don't screw it up it's going to be super emotional in the anime.

Obito is a hero, just like Naruto. In the end in Obito's mind his intentions are still good and it can be argued that they in fact are.

But the thing is, Obito actually had a chance. Naruto knew he had a chance. Furthermore, you're factoring out Naruto's jinchuuriki status, and the ANBU that watched over him. Who would have the opportunity (other than Obito himself, and Danzo would do it "for the village's best interest")? Who would say the same words as Madara? Who would have the same plan as Madara?
