It's more like his influence and effect on Team 7 was pervasive, impacting the lives of the members of Team 7 both directly (by extracting the kyuubi from Kushina and causing her death; assisting with the Uchiha massacre; giving Kakashi his sharingan) and indirectly (by changing Kakashi's values to be team-centric instead of rule-centric.). And most of that was done without them knowing it was him.

But OT, I agree that he continued interacting with them as you've said, even after his identity was revealed -and still didn't stop even after he died, giving Kakashi that all-important chakra infusion.
