Nah he couldnt save himself (he didnt have any doujutsu then that could save himself), even Minato thought he was to late to save him. And Minato just arrived a few minutes after he got crushed. SO between those what 5 (?) minutes somebody saved him. And really I dont see any reason to save such a useless Uchiha back then when there were so many uchiha than. Any other uchiha with a sharingan wouldve been much greater option for a vessel IF somebody was looking for a vessel.

If he didn't save himself my best guess would be that Obito's secretly a descendant from Madara/Izuna and Zetsu was ordered to save him.

But what I was saying was that if somebody cared enough to save him, why wouldn't they care enough to possess him? To be honest from the chapters before this one I can't see it not being Obito's mind (look at his conversation with Kakashi), but at the same time I don't think it's impossible.. everything is open for suggestion. Mainly I wonder why Tobi said he got the eye from the bridge? Unless Kishi is trolling us and he means he awakened the MS from that point or something.

I dont care it's true.

The best ID for tobi wouldve been the elder son of the sage of 6 paths.

But Kishi chose for Obito and not because of his body. I really don't get why so much people are saying Obito's body is using as a vessel. Why would u use a body that's half crushed with ONE sharingan. And not even MS, three tomoe xd

IMO it should have been kagami but i knew it would be obito right from the start were kakashi recognized him you cant tell me you were not expecting this...
