if the seal was necessary for that, why kill rin? why show obito hell? unless madara activated it upon obitos worst nightmare and stuck his heart like that.

The puppet master seal was used by Sasori earlier in the series.

Basically: The seal brainwashes the victim, forcing them to do the casters bidding over long periods of time.

This brainwashing indicates that Madara and his ethos had a much greater impact on Obito's behavior then was originally thought.

This seal sets the tone for permitting the reader to feel that they can forgive Obito since he had less control over himself then was previously thought.

Awesome, I didn't know there was that big of a difference. I realized that the programming was different I thought it was the same jutsu.

Why do all that horrible stuff to him if he was just going to brainwash him?

Is it just a ploy to pull at the readers heartstrings?
I think it provides a bit of a technicality, a further manipulation to distance Obito from his villainy in the readers hearts.

As a plot device it seems odd, without the appearance of the seal I would not have been concerned with those plot points, so I wonder what was the purpose?

purpose was to make sure that madaras own plan worked, so he could step over obito and fulfill his own dream. but that didnt work out perfectly lol.
more like character differences and struggles for obito to do it himself.

it was to show that unfreindly master student relationship.

even their deaths in the end were opposite of each other. a hand thru the back vs a hand on his back.

i think he wanted to force obito to feel exactly like how he did when izuna died. hopeless. and use him as a tool. madara even said obito had become exactly how he used to be. butthurt lol.

obito also learned from madara how to do that with nagato. he just watched as yahiko died and didnt help bc he wanted nagato to see what the world was like.

he tried to do the same with sasuke by forcing his growth against the gokage. didnt work tho.

they wont get that kind of closure now if thats the case tho. yes madaras an a hole lol. but he was nice too once... i guess.

Madara needed to make sure Obito did not sacrifice himself by changing his heart - He was pure hearted & it was the reason Madara chose him to carry on his plans [The seal prevented him from doing so - Thats the reason he wanted Kakashi to stab him in his heart]

It also prevented him from becoming the Juubi Jinchuriki, so he had remove it before becoming the Jinchurikii

Although the seal still left his own conscious/free will intact in order to carry out his plans to revive Madara [It is the reason Obito accepts his mistakes & gladly dies in order to protect the future - Finding his true self at the end]

I didn't know that Madara placed a Curse seal on Obito's heart so is it an excuse for what Obito did? Because most people act like this isn't significant but I don't know much about this curse seal because I dont read every chapter. Explain this to me the curse seal.


I like to be surprised when watching the anime so that's why I don't read every chapter?

It did only two things-

1. Prevent him from doing suicide, which ultimately means did nothing in this regard as he didn't want to die in the first place back then.

2. It was there to prevent him from becoming Jubi's Jin., which is why he first removed it via Kakashi's chidori to the heart.
