Lol they were both scared of each other. If Itachi wasn't afraid of Obito, then he would've killed him along with the rest of the Uchiha considering Obito was the biggest threat back then. :|

Does it matter? Obito beat Itachi in their little game.

Caution and fear are not the same thing. He knew Itachi would give him trouble and be a hinderance, he didn't necessarily think Itachi would get the best of him. (Which he didn't in the end, what does that tell you?)

What I saw was a man who was scared that he'd get solod by tsukuyomi, but were lucky that Itachi gave sasuke amaterasu instead

1.After Obito watched Zetsu's recording of "Itachi vs Sasuke", Itachi, through Sasuke's eye, used Amateratsu on Tobi .
Tobi yelled " No ! That's impossible" similar to Orochimaru after encountering Itachi, and Jiraiya after assuming his Iwagama couldn't be broken by anything in Itachi's arsenal, until Amateratsu was introduced.
2.Obito then proclaimed fortunately he was able to keep secrets from Itachi, otherwise (Obito) he'd be dead.
3. Meaning , at that time, if he and Itachi knew each other's full arsenal of jutsu, Itachi would win in the death match somehow.
4. Obito's secrets would probably include Kamui/Phasing, so seeing as how Itachi proved to do the "impossible" to the above mentioned shinobi, he (Obito) must've realized Kamui/Phasing/or Izanagi could get him out of Amateratsu dangers, but Tsukuyomi could bypass phasing.

No he wasn't. If he was he would have killed him a long time ago but obito needed sasuke so became itachi's mentor and made sure itachi died by sasuke's hand. Neither really trusted the other however.
