Ironically obito is a bigger character than madara because obito had more influence on the series and more screen time if anything madara was the waste of time.

And ofcourse, Obito's role isn't done yet. Atleast, I don't think so. I personally believe Obito will die after Madara is dealt with and Kaguya comes along. Either that or both Obito and Madara will survive to help the alliance fight Kaguya and then die at the end.
