It's easy to think that, Obito is irrational because he's a villain, if he went about this the proper way and his plan for peace was logical, he wouldn't be a villain, because his intentions are good. I've said this a million times but Kishi always does this, he overplays relationships. Let me give you an example.

Ino's dad just died and who does she think of? Sasuke. This is Kishi's bread and butter, he always overdoes this sort of thing. The translation has been inconsistent with the whole Rin thing.

Here it says probably because you let Rin be murdered. He isn't even saying it definitively, he only cites it as the most likely reason. Obito is just like Naruto as many have said but the point Kishi is trying to make is that anyone is corruptible. Naruto didn't have his best friend, even love, killed right in front of him, and he didn't have Madara talking to him about the hopelessness of the world for months. The different circumstances are what makes him interesting, and he has got a point, the love that people have to protect creates conflict causing more death, or the creation of more monsters like him, and this cycle will always continue. Hatred to protect love is how the shinobi world works right? Obito has always said he wanted to change the world because of things like this back in kakashi Gaiden. And for people who say go through the proper channels, really? When the people at the top are like Danzo?

Obito is irrational, but someone who does what he does with such a noble goal should be. I guess it's easy for people to write him off as stupid, especially when people don't take note of what he says and focuses on the Rin flashbacks. If I didn't find the concept of Obito interesting I would feel exactly the same but I read into it.
