The whole Rin thing is not why Obito decided to take over the world. That is plain stupid and I suppose only 12 year olds and idiots thought that.
The reason Obito wanted to take over the world is because he was disgusted at the current world and wanted reformation (Infinite Tsukuyomi). Rin's death was the trigger. Think about it, he'd been thrust into war at 13 years old, accepted his death, realised he wasn't dead and saw his best friend kill his love interest. He found out why that happened and decided to follow Madara's plan because he believed in the cause.
I hate it when people are like "All he does is cry about Rin" blah blah blah.

Obito being Tobi was the best choice. Most people hated it because they were wrong lol and a lot of people are "mystery addicts"(people who like mystery/speculating but hate it when the mystery is revealed no matter what it really is). Some of the other theories were ridicoulus looking back. Like him being so6p, or actually no one(if he was "no one" why bother making a big deal about the mystery), and the incarnation of evil chakra.

My problem with Obito is I don't think his motivation was done well. Seeing his crush die by the hands of the friend he entrusted her to was truly sad but it isn't really a reason to automatically abandon all friends/family and join forces with some creepy old man and his weird plant people, to dedicate the rest of your life to hunting 9 superweapons and putting everybody into the Matrix.
What I wanted to see was a gradual turn into becoming Tobi. Rin dying should have been the final nail after several instances leading up to it, not the one thing that pushed him over the edge. Look at Nagato, ever since the beginning you can see why he became what he is.
