Well, its plausible.

However, in the latest chapter when Shin attacked the young Shin, it looked like he didn't mean for that to happen because he looked surprised when his ability activated.

I believe both Shins are simply being controlled by a higher up, and since the you ger Shin was injured, he was useless, so the higher up took it upon himself to kill him by using the older Shins eye.
