Obito is not some obsessive moron. He truly loved Rin!
And what do you do when you really love someone from the bottom of your heart?
You look out for their best interests, you keep being supportive, keep being a friend. When you truly love someone, you learn to let them go.
Obito knew full well that Rin liked Kakashi more than she could ever like him.
He respected her feelings, but he always looked out for her.
What did Naruto do about Sakura?
Near the end of Part 1 when Sasuke left the village, Naruto found out just how much Sakura cared for Sasuke, and that he could never fill his shoes. Sakura loved Sasuke and him alone.
Naruto knew then that he could never have her. But Naruto would never stop loving her.
The promise of a lifetime, is a testament to this truth. It was a way for Naruto to keep loving Sakura, by being there for her.
And it is the same with Obito's feelings about Rin. He just wanted to be there for her, as a friend and as a comrade.
Obito truly wanted Rin to be happy. That is what love is all about.
That is why, even in the Mugen Tsukuyomi, Obito would never create a scenario where he and Rin would be together.
Obito just wants things to be the way they were before it all went to shit.
He just wants Rin to be alive, to be with Kakashi, because that is what she wanted.
