I myself,however, am not a very big fan of him, but he's still good, and very developed character.

Obito is not Kishimoto favorite character. Kirabi and Choji are.

Obito was the main villian of NV, as he was the true leader of the akatsuki, was the one who controled yagura, the one who declared the forth great ninja war, the one who attacked the hidden leaf with the nine tails killing naruto´s parents and causing distrust on the uchiha, also aided itachi in the uchiha massacre, was the one who told sasuke the truth about itachi, was the one who transplanted itachi´s eyes onto sasuke, he revived the tentails, killed a few named characters unlike other villians like konan, kushina, neji and overall obito has the biggest direct influence on the current events of the NV and also over the mains like naruto, sasuke and kakashi so yes he´s a major character of the series.

Obito (basically) and Madara started everything. They are like the Aizen of Naruto.

Well, he's responsible for the plot, and is the only villain to be the main character of an arc (he's pretty much the MC during the Ten Tails Revival Arc and Sasuke was never really a villain). Plus, this is more or less his introduction, being as he was either Tobi or Madara in the other data books.

Because unlike Obito, hashirama actually accomplished something in life, and became Hokage, something obito aspired to be.

I agree about kakashi. He should have had 6 pages since he became Hokage too Not that failure Obito though.
