that's a false translation as you have blacked out what the sound effects say by the side of the picture. it actually says 'creak' in the first right panel and in the second left it says 'still'....

he was using the stick to train his arm that he just grew.

Its possible since half his body is made out of zetsu. It looks like in the panel he IS using wood style, but that's the first we've seen of it. I don't think he's just balancing it on his hand
