Many hardcore Obito fans disagree, but it did all start with Rin, which is the meaning of this thread, not his later motives. You can't deny that it all started when Kakashi pierced Rin with the Chidori. If anything, Kakashi should have became Tobi, seeing as his past was so much darker.

I comprehend it fine. I understand that Rin was special to him but it seems like he overreacted. Comparing his pain to Naruto is a bit over the top. Naruto was a jin who was shunned for apparent reasons. People only looked down on him because of his skill level. It wasn't to the point people where people were shunning him from being social. He still had his team in the end. I guess my whole thing with Obito it just seems it was all pushed over the top.

His Clan most likely looked down upon him leaving only rin, the person who truly treated him good and cared for him.

Also, obito is an uchiha, They feel love more strongly than anyone else, reason why they go crazy when someone they love dies.

Not everything has to be a major angst-fest, the strongest character doesn't have to be the one with the most twisted backstory, i've explained why Obito is a fantastic character too many times and it's too long to put in this thread but the short version of why his story work is this:

1.Boy pretty much only lives for one person who understands him.
2.Boy watches as only person who understands him is killed.
3.Boy is offered way to see her again and fix this problem.

Why wouldn't he follow Madara? That's all there is to it, just because there wasn't a genocide, or a rinnegan or decades of hatred or childhood of torture....doesn't make it bad motivation. Just because Gaara and Naruto had more obvious dark backgrounds it doesn't mean they have better motivation, people react to pain in different ways. Obito is the only one who was really ever offered a way out.

because he basically DIED!?. He literally had a death experience and when he awoke the first thing he saw was the most important person in his life being killed by the second most important person in his life. He woke back up into hell and opened the opportunity for Madara to pollute his mind.

Honestly I feel like i'll just be repeating myself. The fact that his character did a supposed '180' doesn't change the fact of that 3 step simplification I put. Naruto would've done the same thing. I think any character in the whole manga would do that if the world took the most important thing from them and then offered a certain way to fix that problem.
