Can someone tell me how exactly black zetsu was the mastermind. We know he change the tablet and tempt Indra to fight Ashura, but how else was he able to fuel the conflict between senju and uchiha?

all it took was the tablet to set everything in motion also I don't think he had anything to do with the original brothers.

He started an endless cycle of war and hatred. Looks like a mastermind to me.

Black Zetsu was a henchman who did Kaguya's bidding, he was the one who rewrote what was on the tablet, but it was Kaguya's intentions to be revived. It doesn't appear that way when Kaguya was revived though. Black zetsu seemed to be the mastermind in control of Kaguya, while Kaguya was just the muscle.

I blame Kaguya for being such a bad villain, to the point where her henchmen looks like the mastermind.

He influenced a series of events, and well it set forth everything else. Its not that he knew all this would happen but he knew eventually he would get his way.
