Hey I have a question that I have really been trying to find the answer to. My question is about computers

nVidia GeForce GTX 680 Is better than
Asus Radeon HD 7870 DirectCU II!

I just randomly read that on a website but if some pople heard those 2 names they would be identify the winner between these two graphics cards. How do I know wich one is stronger and better by just hearing the names?Same goes with mother boards ect

Is there some kind of thing to this where if the number is higher than its newer and stronger?

Well you can't compare the numbers between companies -> those are just designations within the product line, so while the Radeon has a higher number than the GeForce, they are obviously still comparable. ;) That said, yes, within a product line the higher the number is the newer the product (although keep in mind companies may have more than one product "series").

Anyhow, my guess is that both cards have their strengths and weaknesses, so you'd want to research both of them on what they were designed for and then compare that with what you're going to use them for.

More than likely either one will be sufficient for your needs.

EDIT -> Though I have heard good things about GeForce

You wouldn't to be honest. The names don't really suggest anything, they are 2 different companies with different names to their cards. To identify which one is stronger, you would have to be up to date with the latest computer hardware releases and do a bit of research.

When you're buying a standard gaming graphics card, you can normally tell that if they're similar just by the price tag.
I don't know where your location is but you can do some research, compare and buy graphics card and others parts on Scan.co.uk
I'll probably get an infraction for that website but I'm willing to help a brother out ^^

Note: If you're running an AMD processor I'd recommend getting an AMD card, and then with Intel, nVidia :)
