This relatively-simple Jounin-rank jutsu that Naruto mastered before he became a Genin was on the Shodaime's Scroll of Sealing. Did they ever touch up on why this was considered a forbidden technique, seeing as how a few other notable shinobi use this technique too? If so, can any of you kind people refer to me the manga page in which it's covered?

The amount of chakra consumption the technique uses it was considered a dangerous technique just like the other guy said if anyone would make as many clones as naruto can he would die due to chakra exhaustion, naruto was efficient at using it due to his nine tails chakra and ur to being a member of the uzumaki clan his life force chakra was high so he could use it with minimal drain on his chakra

It was forbidden because it could potentially kill the user or leave them vulnerable. The technique splits the user's chakra evenly amongst the clones; essentially dividing the person's energy in half for every two clones. Plus, the when the clones are dispersed, any fatigue that they generated is inflicted back on the user. This makes the technique extremely dangerous, and not usually viable in combat.

The normal Shadow Clone technique isn't forbidden. Only making many of them at the same time is considered taboo. If you think about it, Naruto is the only person that has used multiple clones (more than a dozen or so) in battle against actual opponents (the goons that Kakashi beat up before the Chunin Exams don't really count).

Kage bunshin & shadow clone are different....
shadow clone cannot do anything, its just a visual kind of thing.....& any chakra sensing ninja can find out the real one among the shadow clones....here, chakra is used to make a clone
whereas, kage bunshin is a real physical clone of the original user, & the chakra is divided into clones....each one real & capable of doing as much damage as the original one.....
Kage bunshin is rightly put up as a forbidden jutsu, not because of danger to user, but due to danger of falling into wrong hands.....as you can see, almost everything naruto has learnt, kage bunshin has played a major role in it.....

It is extremely chakra draining, that is why Naruto can efficiently use it, being an Uzumaki, he naturally had high chakra reserves to wield it

Just like the owner of the Scroll:

Kage means shadow in Japanese, bunshin means clone in Japanese. So how the f**k these are 2 different techniques huh? You didn't make enough of research... sorry but fail answer.
I agree with that though "due to danger of falling into wrong hands.....as you can see, almost everything naruto has learnt, kage bunshin has played a major role in it....."
I think it could be both, danger to the big amount of chakra consumption plus the fact of how much enhanced the shinobi may be if uses this technique wisely.

Pretty much everyone is on the same page...Took alot of chakra to produce and it would eventually kill the user for it's large chakra consumption.

Indeed that is why it leads me to believe that the original owner of the scroll containing the technique must have had a very large chakra pool to utilize it, a certain Uzumaki from long ago ;)

Not sure the chapter but they said its forbidden cuz it splits your chakra evenly and if your not careful you could use up all your chakra and die like Kakashi did when he used up all his chakra during his fight with pain.
Not say it was shadow clones that made him use all his chakra it is just an example of someone dying cuz they ran outta chakra.
