No, Really: Why Does Sasuke Want To Kill Naruto?

It's Sasuke, I don't think even he knows what he wants anymore.

Surprisingly... About the same as Sasuke has said Naruto.

He fought Itachi and that conversation was about Sasuke, but beyond that Sasuke had his little moment when he entered the battle about "going to that place and defeating Naruto... And true power"... Regular NaruSasu drivel.

And then when he entered the war they've both talked about each other about the same amount. Pretty even since the land of iron (which was three years ago) give or take a few "Sasukeeees" and "Naruuuttooos".

I don't think it was concern on Naruto's face, rather than surprised at the fact that Sasuke saved him since for all Naruto knew... Sasuke didn't really give a damn about him and wanted him dead up until Sasuke started to change to where he is now (wherever that is). It was more shock at that rather than sensing something sinister I think. The more I think about it the more I get my answers. I was confused at first as well to what the last 2 pages meant. The cut over Naruto means that Naruto is in his way still. He wants to become Hokage and he wants to change the system... his way. He knows Naruto wants that title and wants to change the system in a different way than his own. Sasuke has always had trouble with compromise and shoving his superiority complex aside until it's too late. With saying "I am going to be the one to delete the past" that can mean anything, especially when it's coming from Sasuke. He is right under Orochimaru when it comes to being unpredictable in this whole manga.

it can mean either:

1) Still wanting to get rid of his past ties.. perhaps to make new ones?

2) Building off of what Kakashi said on protecting the past, just kind of the opposite.

3) Wanting to control the Moons Eye Plan himself.

4) Going off of what he said with wanting to change the system, by getting rid of Bijuu.

The newest chapter is evidence of the fact that Sasuke still has the desire to kill Naruto.

This image provides all the proof needed. Naruto can sense Sasuke's malice towards him, hence his concerned expression, and the flashback of Naruto cut in half signifies Sasuke's goal for "deleting the past".

Now, there are a couple reasons Sasuke would want to kill Naruto that I'd like to discuss.

(1) Bijuus

This theory has been around for a while, that Sasuke will want to kill Naruto because he contains a Bijuu, which is Sasuke's current goal to destroy.

However, I don't think that is soley the reason.

The flashback in Sasuke's head with Naruto's picture suggests this is almost for personal reasons. Enter...

(2) Sasuke's Pride

Time and again in the series, we have seen that Sasuke is a prideful, arrogant bastard. The main reason Sasuke wants to kill Naruto, I believe, is that Naruto has angered him to no end, following him and rejecting his wishes. It would be an even more damaging blow to his pride if he admits Naruto was right, something he can't let happen.

All in all, I believe Sasuke's main reason for wanting to kill Naruto is his flowing hate for him.

It's probably because Naruto discredits the Uchiha. He suffered in the same way as the Uchiha or worse. Yet, he controled himself and the Uchiha rebelled. To Sasuke, Naruto's continued existence is an insult to the Uchiha because he shows how the Uchiha have no excuse for what happened.

Or maybe he feels threatened by Naruto. He's the only one who understands him, the only one who can get in his way, and that eats him up inside. He can't take the fact that there's someone out there who's willing to help him, and he doesn't want to believe he needs it. Another thing would be that "true strength" he was talking about.

Sasuke's hatred of naruto is more than simply because he had the nine tails. He hates almost everything about him: his power (just how strong have you become), he ideology, and his past with him. Sasuke's motive for wanting naruto dead runs far deeper than the bijou. Heck he wanted him dead when they were in the land of iron. Naruto stands for love, compassion, understanding. He made sasuke wear the leaf headband in the VoE because of the meaning behind it. Sasuke hates konoha, their ideals, and what they have done. He even thought that everyone in the leaf who was living a happy life was "laughing" at itachi and all he did for them---the scene with obito.

Sasuke really despises naruto and when they fight it will be about a lot more than i want to kill the biju.

Not sure if this is right or not but maybe sasuke hates naruto because he is everything he couldn't be. --Now bare with me i know sasuke doesn't care about what others think--.

But more than once when reading manga/anime i have come across this sort of thing. For instance, naruto and sasuke are polar opposites in almost every way. While they both had a sad, horribly sad past they both dealt with it differently.

Naruto was shunned and hated, he never even knew why he was hated and despised. He was ostracized, tormented, shunned, and hated just for being alive.

Sasuke had everything, and because of his clans coup, his brother had to murder his entire clan, and leave him all alone with only the memories of his family, and hatred which turned into love for his brother.

Both sad pasts, while sasuke likes to think his was worse--i think Naruto had it a little worse off not being able to even have memories of what it is like to be loved, accepted, and what a family is like, all the while being hated and not knowing why to then being hated for something that was forced upon you, and wasn't your fault. And being made fun of and hated all the time. But that's besides the point.

Basically naruto kept fighting for recognition, and now he is respected and loved by those that used to hate him. He got the recognition he wanted. He dealt with being alone by wanting bonds with people while sasuke became more closed off and angry.


Naruto gained power by staying in the leaf while sasuke could only see himself becoming stronger if he left and joined their enemy orochimaru.

He even dealt with his tailed beats and was able to gain complete control over the very thing that made his life miserable. While sasuke couldn't deal with the pain of itachi's sacrifice he went the complete other route and now wanted vengeance on all citizens of the leaf instead of itachi.

So in so many ways naruto is sasuke's opposite.

In numerous manga's i've read the person who tried the hardest, never gives up, and flourishes in the light the other who (like sasuke) becomes jealous and angry at the person who was so like them (alone) was able to be happy and normal despite growing up in the same circumstances as them.


I know i'm reaching on this theory, sasuke doesn't give two shits about others or what they think of him so i could be way off. But maybe this is a contributing factor as to why sasuke hates naruto so much. We know he is jealous of him (as seen during the invasion where naruto beat gaara) and then again seeing naruto able to wield so much chakra effortlessly. I know his hatred of naruto runs far deeper than just because he has a biju, it has to do with their bond and their past together as team 7. So thats why, at least a little bit, i think sasuke wants to kill him because he is everything is isn't.

Maybe? POssibly? Or am i reaching too far with this?
