Obito could have had a much more complex explanation than losing his first love. He did a lot of things he probably regretted, which is why he called himself trash. He realized that everything he did was reality and that it was disgusting, he wanted to remove said reality and the guilt he probably felt.

He killed his childhood friends in the Uchiha Massacre.

He wiped out multiple clans in Kiri.

He kidnapped a baby and killed it's mother.

He killed his own sensei inadvertently.

There's no way he did all of that without breaking his own heart.

For the hyped up main villain, he became a total pansy by the end. Kishi and his stupid obsession with redeeming villains at its worst. Shoulda died when Madara attempted to use Renni Tensei after Kakashi stabbed him through the heart.
