It's only the 19th season, not the 900th.

It was good back in the old days, and younger generations keep starting from that point and that serves to enlarge it's fanbase, thereby keeping it popular and a good money spinner. Think about all the merchandise they can conjure up from the series.

So, it's ongoing because it still feeds off the past, not because the present material is good.
