Nin's sleeping in his Anbu household.
"Nin, are you awake?" Atems asked quietly.
Nin rolled over in his bed.
"Get up, kid!" he shouted. Atems pulled Nin's sheets out from under him, flipping him over onto the floor. Nin landed in a cat-like stance, low to the ground, his red kunai, 'Four', in hand, wide awake.
"Danger, danger. Some one's in my room," he said.
"It's okay, Nin. It's just me."
"Oh, it's just Ate-" Nin began as he straightened up.
"What part of 'ANBU names are secret' don't you understand?" Atems flicked Nin in the forehead, putting him off balance.
"Sorry, man," Nin replied, regaining his balance. "Yawn. What time is it?"
"About six."
"Whoa! Yawn. I slept through the whole day! What genin mission did I miss?"
"It's six A.M."
Nin stoped, frozen mid-streatch. "Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"WELL WHY THE HECK DID YOU WAKE ME UP AT SIX A.M.!?!?!?!?!?!?"
"Today's the chuunin exams, remember?"
"Oh yeah," Nin said, stroking an imaginary beard. "But that doesn't start for a few HOURS NOW!!!"
"Can't hurt to get up early and prectise, can it?"
Nin sat down on his bed. "But I already have a," he put his legs up onto his bed, "leg up on the compititon. Good-night!" Nin said as he placed 'Four' over his eyes and put his hands behind his head. Atems picked 'Four' from Nin's eyes.
Nin raised an eyebrow without opening his eyes. "You'd better put that back," he said, "or I'll kick your butt across the Joint Shinobi Alliance, genin or not."
"You get this back when you agree to start training for the chuunin exams."
Nin was silent for a while. Then he grinned, eyes still closed. "I hate you."
"I know."

Nin and Atems sparred in the training field near a lake in the Joint Shinobi Forces. Because Nin only knew lightning style at the time, the spar was limited to lightning style.
"You're doing pretty good, Nin."
"You haven't seen nothin' yet!" Nin threw a ball of lightning towards Atems. Atems jumped to his left, Nin's right (which Nin anticipated) and was nearly caught in Nin's Lightning Surge Jutsu. Just before the jutsu hit, however, Atems lept backwards, misjudging his leap and landed half-way in the lake before his chakra began propelling him upwards.
"That was good, Nin!" he called.
Nin smirked. "I'm not done!" The roll of thunder rippled across the training field.
I see, Atems thought. While we were sparring, Nin somehow conjured the clouds while I wasn't paying attention. This fight is just about done. And it doesn't seem to be in my favor.
Nin's right index finger, which was pointing to the sky, and more specifically, his clouds, whipped down to his guardian Atems. Milliseconds later, a blot of lightning followed, killing everything under the surface of the water and singeing Atems to a point where it would hurt to move, but not quite be leathal by itself.
"Are you alright, sensei?" Nin called out to the lake.
Atems pulled himselfto shore and rested on the bank of the lake. "I'll be fine," he called. "Go onto the examination buildings; you don't want to be late!"
"Yes sensei!" Nin disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Atems coughed up a cloud of black smoke. "That kid'll do fine. Aside from only using one element, I wasn't holding back. I think... Maybe I'm getting soft."

Nin arrived at the examination hall a few minutes later. He kept his face void of any expression to seem cooler/tougher.
"Alright. Ate- DARN IT! He has been preparing me for this for a while now. I'll do just fine. But first..." Nin created two lightning clones. The clones used Transformation Jutsu so it seemed like he had the required three members.
"Hold it," said a Jonin at the doors.
"Nin Senshi, Holden Gharn, Samuni Hotaku," Nin said, introducing his 'team'. "We're the Joint Shinobi Alliance's Lighting Squad. Our sensei is one of the ANBU's, whose name I cannot reveal, even if you are allowed to know, I, we promised not to tell even the highest ranking officials."
"I- I was just going to ask where the other guy's headband was," the Jonin said, a little surprised and even scared at Nin's assertivness.
"Oh," Nin said. I can't believe I forgot a headband for him! Nin though furiously. "Holden typically doesn't wear a headband; he fancies himself a spy/ambush type ninja."
"I see. Go on in, genin."
"Thank you," Nin said, walking past the Jonin into the testing hall. 'Holden' gave a silent nod and a smirk as he walked past and 'Samuni' made no guesture or sound whatsoever as she past.
"Hey man," said Nin's only friend, Kotei.
"Sup Kotei."
"I didn't know you had a squad."
"Shhh..." Nin said, putting a finger over Kotei's mouth. "I don't," he whispered.
"Ah..." Kotei whispered.
"Everyone, take your seats!" said the examiner. Nin took his seat in the middle row while his 'partners' took seats in the rows on either side of him.
"You have one hour to complete the test. For every question you get wrong, you lose one point, and for every time you get caught cheating, two points. You start with ten points and if you reach zero, you and your squad are out of the exams, got it? This is the only one of the three parts where your actions will effect your entire squad. When fourty-five minutes are up, I'll explain, and ask you if you want to answer, the tenth question. When fifty-five minutes are up, I'll ask the tenth question and you left will answer it. Does everyone understand? Good! The test starts... Now!"
Nin and his clones flipped over their tests and looked at the questions. What the heck? Nin thought. These are WAY too hard for a genin to answer. Well, he only said that if we hit zero points, it's game over, and if I don't answer any questions, I can't get any wrong so I can't hit zero. It's riskey, but I guess I just won't answer the questions.

Fourty minutes later, Nin was sitting back in his chair, feet up on his table, his test over his eyes so he could catch up on his well deserved sleep, while his clones sat, staring at the tests so it didn't seem like his whole team were slackers.
"Five minutes until I explain the last question," the examiner said.
Nin blew his paper off his face. "Wake me when you're asking the question, not five minutes before." The paper floated back onto Nin's face and he went back to sleep.

"Alright, Mr. Senshi. I'm about to explain the tenth question, so WAKE UP!"
Nin pulled himself up with only his feet so he was standing on the table and backflipped into his chair as his test floated back down to the table silently. "Happy?"
"Not particuarily, but moving on from that. Now, if you answer the tenth question wrong, you will not be able to compete in the chuunin exams EVER AGAIN! On the other hand, you can leave now and try again next year. If you chose to leave now, your entire squad must leave with you. You have ten minutes to decide. Starting... Now." The examiner put his feet on on his desk and started reading a magazine.
Nin put his feet up on his table and put his test back up to sleep.
"I can see you, Senshi."
"I don't care, gramps!"
The next ten minutes past slowly, being interuppted every few seconds with people giving up. Nin almost didn't get any sleep at all.
"Times up!" the examiner said.
Let's see what kind of twisted, insanely hard question this is. Nin though as he sat up.
"You all passed!"
"Cool," Nin said, standing up to leave.
"Wiat," said a girl near the back. "How?"
"Who cares!?" Nin said. "We passed, and we're onto the next test; I really don't care how!" And Nin left, with his clones, without saying or hearing another word.

At the gate to the Forest of Death, Nin was thinking over his plan to win. I got two lightning clones here, but I don't need them the moment I step into the forest, at least until I make it to the end. I'll turn them back into lightning, and use that lightning to cover my body as a shield. Then I'll just find some unsuspecting genin and steal his scroll. Or at least the location of the person holding the scroll.
"You all have five day's to complete the second stage of the chuunin exams," the second stage examiner said. "Begin!"
Nin and his 'team' ran in immediatly as the gate opened. When they were engulfed deep enough into the forest, Holden and Samuni turned back into their lightning states and created a lightning shield around Nin. The resulting electricity laid a blanket of static electricity over the surrounding forest. Nin heard a small crackle of static electic charges behind him and moved with lightning speed to be behind the retreating genin.
"Where do you think you're going?" he asked. As the genin turned around, Nin forced lightning away from his right hand so he could grab the kid by the throat and toss him into the ground from the trees without frying him. Yet.
Nin fell to the ground gracefully and picked the genin up by the throat, pushing his head into the tree behind him.
"Do you have the scroll?" Nin asked quickly.
"Wh- What?"
"Your squads scroll, do you have it?" Nin's grip tightened on the kid's neck.
"I- Yes. I have it!" The genin pulled out a scroll of heaven from his back pocket.
"Heaven scroll, eh? I have an earth scroll myself. Trade ya'."
"Trade?" the kid asked, being able to breathe easier because Nin loosened his grip somewhat. "What would be the point of a trade; we'd both still have only one scroll."
"But I like heaven scrolls better than earth scrolls," Nin protested. "Trade or I might not be able to keep the lightning from my hand."
"Fine. Put my down first."
Nin let down the unfortunate genin and fairly traded his earth scroll for the kids heaven scroll.
"I still don't get the point of-" the kid began. Nin pulled a wire, knocking the earth scroll from the genin and trapping his right hand.
"What the-?" he began, and that's all he had time to say. Before he knew it, lightning traveled through the wire and up his arm, paralizing, if not comatizing, if not killing him. Nin picked up his dropped, undamaged earth scroll.
"See ya'," he said with a little two finger salute. Nin placed the scrolls in his back pocket and disappeared in a blinding flash.

By the time Nin could see the tower and was almost done the second stage of the chuunin exams, he ran into a group of three ninja.
"Hey!" one of them called. He was dressed as if he was the leader. "We want your scrolls!"
"Yeah!" called a chubbier one.
"I told you to leave all the talking to me."
Instead of talking again, the chubby ninja smiply nodded. More organized than most with that problem, Nin thought.
"What tells you I even have a scroll?" Nin asked.
"Let's see, what's a dead give-away? The lightning shield, especially in combination with your heading towards the tower. There's a slight buldge near your back pocket, meaning that you don't want to accedentially singe the scrolls. Not only have I determined that you have scrolls, but I've determined where they are. Wind Style: Element Erroder!" A giant gust of wind blew from the leaders palms, actually blowing Nin's lightning shield away. Crap! he thought. All I can do is lightning, and if he can cancel that, I'm screwed! From his pocket, Nin noticed an explosion tag flapping in the wind. That's BRILLIANT Nin!
Nin took out a kunai, wrapped an explosion tag around the handle, and jumped into the air. Nin tossed the kunai towards the squad and let the winds blow him away with a small, two-fingered salute. The explosion tag did it's job and the huge stream of air became a tunnle of fire. Nin was able to get out of it's way before the flames reached him, but he felt the heat none the less. With two transformed lightning clones at his side, he went around the squad, hopeing that they were to injured from his fast-thinking to be able to stop him.
As the fire and smoke cleared, Nin clearly saw a wall of stones protectiong the squad before it was blown away by the wind style jutsu. I need to hurry! he thought. As he made his way, quickly and silently, around the squad, it almost seemed like he could get by. But then there came a cry of "He's over there!" from the other ninja who wasn't even looking anywhere near where he was at the time. "Crap!" Nin whispered, incase it was just a ruse to get him to come out. It wasn't.
The leader of the other squad used his wind jutsu and uprooted a tree between them. THAT' S JUST NOT RIGHT! Nin thought. Nin and his clones went as fast as they could around the squad, but the leader caught him in his wind style jutsu. At least my clones don't disappear in this wind stream. he thought. Nin was much closer to his opponent this time than last time, so he thought he might have a better chance of stopping him. Nin threw another exploding kunai into the stream of wind. This time, both of them were caught in the exposion. As for the other two members of the opposing squad, Nin's clones exploded into lightning balls, knocking them out.
As Nin lay on the ground, smoking from the blast, he saw the other kid slowly get up. CRAP! he thought. I need to get up now or I' dead. That was no exageration. The leader of the other team was tired of Nin, and wanted to rid himself of his new enemy once and for all. This should be easy. the leader thought. The only reason I survived that was my Kekkei Genkai, which automatically heals any major damage to my person. If this kid isn't dead already, he will be!
As Nin saw this guy advance on him, he knew he had to do something. Nin pushed himself up, trying his muscles to their limits, and finally stood up, face-to-face with his attacker.
"Thought I was down for the count? Didn't ya'?"
"DIE, KID!" The leader launched himself at Nin. Nin was knocked into a tree, finally making him snap.
The kanji on his kunai flared blue, supplying him with chakra. Nin's eyes snapped open, nearly blazing with blue chakra. Nin pushed himself off of the tree trunk, and collided straight with his opponent. Nin skidded to a halt a little ways away and leapt directly over his opponent, his kunai flaring up with lightning.
"Oh no," the guy said.
"Oh yes," Nin replied. "LIGHTNING JAVALIN!" Nin tossed the kunai directly through his opponents heart, making a lightning trail behind it back to his hand. Nin fell back to the ground and picked up his kunai as the rest of the squad woke up. Nin once again made his lightning clone team.
"I killed him. Stay away from me," Nin said, then walked into the tower.

"Hey, look at this," said one of the chuunin monitering the tower. "The Joint Shinobi Alliance's Lightning Squad made it."
"Already?" said another.
"Yup." On the moniters, Nin unrolled two scrolls and Atems appeared.
"Their sensei is an ANBU?"
"Apperantly."

"Good job, Nin," Atems said.
"Thank you, sensei."
"You don't need your clones in the last round; they can choose to just drop out."
"Good. They're tiresome."
"They're draining your chakra?"
"They're annoying to make sure it's not discovered that they're clones."
"I see."

At the third stage of the chuunin exams, there were only eleven ninja left, including Nin's clones.
"Now," said the third test examiner. "Is there anyone who would like to drop out?"
"That's insane," one of the remaining ninja said. "Who'd want to drop out if they made it this far?"
My two clones raised thier hands.
"You two may leave now," the examiner said. "Anyone else?" The gril from the ninja squad that nearly killed Nin raised her hand. "Go now. Any more? No? Then here is the battle roster; prepare for the fights in a month." Nin didn't think too much of the battle roster; he really didn't care who he fought now that he killed the 'impossible opponent'. But the remaining members of the other team seemed to think differently.
"Are you sure we can enter if she's dead?" asked the chubby ninja.
"Of course I am," said the other. "We entered with a clone and sent her away; jsut like the other guy. Now, we'd better get working on you so you can kill him in the first matches."
"Alrighty, boss."

"I need to get better at taijutsu," Nin said to Atems.
"This is all of a sudden, but alright, if you think you need it."
"I do. There was a guy who was immune to my lightning, so I needed to rely on my taijutsu, which I couldn't use very well. Even though I killed him, there may be more."
"I was being sarcastic, but I suppose we can train."
"Good."

A month later, Nin showed up to battle arena.
"Alright!" said the examiner. "The first battle will be between Rikono and Kazekona." A very chinese-looking person and a familiar face stood at the bottom of the arena.
"That guy," Nin said, to no one in particular, even though some of his opponents-to-be were listening. "I killed that guy!"
"Which guy?" asked one of the others, genuinly scared.
"WINNER: KAZEKONA!" yelled the examiner.
"Kazekona, appearantly."
"Are you sure you killed him?"
"I saw a hole in his heart, so I'm pretty sure he was dead."
"Who was dead?" Kazekona asked as he walked by.
"No one, no one," Nin said.
The next two battles went fast and uneventful.
"FINAL SEMI-FINAL MATCH! TSUCHIMONO VERSES NIN!"
Nin and Tsuchimono made their ways down to the arena.
"BEGIN!"
Tsuchimono, the chubby ninja from the squad that ambushed Nin, created a giant wal of earth.
"Earth defences?" Nin asked. "Really?"
The wall erupted into millions of rocky shrapenal.
"Crap!" Nin forced chakra into his feet to propel himself into the air above the rocks. As he came down, he used Lightning Style: Lightning Surge, sending a stream of lightning through the ground and before Tsuchimono knew what was going on, he was fried with a large volt of electricity.
"WINNER: NIN!"
Nin walked back up to the balcony overlooking the arena.

After the quater-finals were over, it was down to Nin and Kazekona. They stood across from each other in the arena, staring each other down fot the last time.
"I'm going to kill you," Kazekona said.
"I already killed you," Nin replied. "Mind explaining to me what happened?"
"My body automatically heals large injuries at the expense of my large chakra supply. If someone were to send their chakra into my body, I could even revive myself form the dead."
"I see."
"BEGIN!"
"Lightning Clone Jutsu!" Four clones appear next to Nin.
"Only four?"
"Four is my lucky number. My parents were killed when I was four, so you will experience my pain."
"I see."
The clones rushed towards Kazekona.
"Really? You think that's going to do anything? Wind Style: Element Erroder!" The clones disappeared just before the made to Kazekona. "Face it, you can't beat me!"
"You're right. I can't beat you," Nin said. "You can destroy all of my lightning jutsu and I just suck at taijutsu." Nin ran at Kazekona and tried out his new taijutsu skills. Kazekona fought back for a while, then he used his wind style jutsu to push Nin away.
"You got better at taijutsu, I'll give you that. But you still can't beat me."
"I suppose I just have to give up. Or, at least, I would, if I didn't have an ace in the hole."
"Any ace in the hole you could have I've shown that I can beat."
"Oh really? Let's finish this! Lightning Style: LIGHTNING FANG!" Nin brought his finger down from the sky, bringing with it a bolt of lightning.
"Wind Style: ELEMENT ERRODER!" Kazekona's jutsu had not effect upon the impending doom of the bolt of lightning. It struck and nearly literally tore him in half.
Nin walked up to Kazekona and said, "That was about as real as it gets. Your jutsu doesn't work on real lightning, appearantly."
"WINNER: NIN SENSHI!!!!!" The crowd cheered their heads off at their new chuunin, Nin. Nin soaked it in as much as he could. He held 'Four' and held it over his head like a trophey. He scanned the crowd for Atems. Finally, he found his guardian, and Atems was actually smiling. He gave Nin a thumbs up, and Nin knew that he did good. He did better than good, he did better than great. He was deserving of a thumbs up from the hardest-to-please ninja in the Joint Shinobi Alliance. Nin smiled, proud of his accomplishment; he must be the first ninja to to complete the entire chuunin exam alone! And in that moment, he knew that he was that much closer to avenging his parents. "Look out, Akatsuki!" Nin said to himself. "I'm out to get you, and I won't die until my parents are avenged. Better count on it!"
