seeing how the previous one made 1.5 billion and is the 6th highest grossing movie of all time, no way they are stopping.

i cant believe it does those numbers, its astonishing how people can watch a plastic water bottle, i mean its a complete parody of its own ghost

its genius marketing when mediocrity can do those kind of numbers. i mean really good, captivating and thought provoking movies should be the highest grossing. no way is Fast and the Furious the sixth greatest movie ever but it makes the most, because of good branding and marketing

it's a high octane action movie and it doesn't pretend to be anything else, it's basically a movie you go to see with friends for the the fun action and crazy stunts.

not every movie needs to be profound and thought provoking, and generally those movies will never make as much money, because people especially outside of the US don't care that much about a good story. Not to mention making a movie that can be understood by everyone around the world is much harder than you might think.

Movies like FF appeal to everyone, that's why they make the most money.

even for a action movie its not one of the best imo i just see genius marketing, lets throw a bunch of well known celebrities into the acting, have them make songs for the movie and play ads and promote it all across the world. and because Fast and the Furious has been around forever and keeps coming out it becomes traditional to see the new one, very formulaic processing. it takes good marketing, branding and promotion to reach the world. theres tons of great stuff the world doesnt know about because of the lack of the above

but whatever, i was just noting my disgust

yeah marketing does play a role in how successful a movie is, but i also don't think Furious 7 was a bad movie for what it was. They handled paul walker's death really well at the end.

but like i mentioned above language barrier is also an issue. Why do you think good comedies for example don't make that much money internationally? because of double entendres and jokes that have no good translation in other languages. So some movies get dumbed down so they can appeal to as much people as possible and that = more money.

Movies made for the oscar season generally have much smaller budgets and some don't even get a wide release, because they are for specific audience.

China is the second biggest movie market, do you really think they can appreciate movies like The Danish Girl, The Revenant, or any of the recent oscar winners?

Warcraft which wasn't anything special in terms of story and acting barely made any money in the US, but in China it made 90% of its total box office.

mmm, im missing the point in this..also i already addressed that, reaching different demographics is apart of genius marketing. just because a bunch of people saw something, doesnt mean they all enjoyed it a lot, the point is to get them to spend money

in my eyes it just hurts the art form when money becomes the only goal. and it did better than it shouldve because of marketing, promotion, Paul Walker dying and everything else to take away from how generic of a movie it is, but since you like it ill be nice

i'm going to quote your original post

even with the best marketing, if a movie is for more niche audience it still won't make as much money

that's what I was getting at.
