What's a Type-1 Civilization?

A Type-1 civilization is a global civilization, with a global ideology, an overarching system that all nations adhere to. We have something close to this, called the UN, but not all countries are in the UN, and not all countries in the UN adhere to its policies.

We are a Type-0 civilization. We get our energy from dead plants, animals, and gasses in the earth and we have political and religious strife (which often go hand-in-hand). But with a Type-1 civilization, with no political strife to speak of and all petty differences put aside in favor of cooperation, our scientific avenues will be spent playing with the weather, getting our energy from the Sun, modifying the Earth's topography, unlocking the secrets of life, and other goodies.

But that's not to say we don't already have Type-1 stuff. The internet is Type-1 technology, since it's global. English is a Type-1 language, it's spoken all over the world. Blue jeans is a type-1 pants, it's worn all over the world where carpentry is done. Coca-Cola is a Type-1 drink =D

The Voyager space craft is a Type-2 machine, it's Stellar. It reached interstellar space.

I'm just waiting for that civil war to happen during Obama's term. I mean, Aim64C does post walls of text, so it must be true.

Ten Years:

Worldwide economic collapse brought about by the bond market becoming exclusive to State-established central banks (such as the Federal Reserve and comparable things in other nations). This collapses petroleum exchange and paralyzes many world trade economies, which leads to worldwide food shortages. 30% of the population doesn't survive two months after the bond market collapse.

The Caliphate may slow its advance, some, during this time - but I suspect the opposite will occur. Saudi Arabia will fall (likely before the full-on collapse) Turkey will not be far behind. By 2023, Islamic militants will be preparing to move on cities like Sarajevo for inclusion into the Islamic State. Possibly even 2020 - but that's a highly ambitious timetable.

Europe is paralyzed by local Muslim attempts to form their own nation-states (affiliated with ISIS or not).

The U.S. descends into civil war with the primary showdown being between communists and those who wish to restore the Constitution.

General decline of industrial capability following the failure of manufacturing, warehouse, and supply chains. Many cutting edge technologies are lost outside of textbooks, and databases on hard drives begin to corrupt and become inaccessible toward the end of this ten year period. Discoveries not effectively archived in this time frame must be made again. Unmaintained factories have metals solidify in melt and holding furnaces - which busts the lining and renders them unusable. Entire manufacturing processes can become impossible to service.

50 years:

Re-development of industrial capability. The current industrial technologies are built heavily around a systems of oil extraction and exploitation that are far more energy intensive to exploit, today, than the original oil sources that spawned the petroleum revolution. The entire landscape of technologically and industrially advanced societies may change, as only certain energy sources will be realistic to harvest and harness. Petroleum products will still exist, it is just a question of whether or not the supply will be able to meet demand purely from an industrial sense. Transporting oil consumes oil and current operations are not necessarily designed to 'bootstrap.'

100 years:

Preserving the records of events that precipitated the collapse so as to serve as a warning for future generations in an attempt to prevent them from repeating similar mistakes. Even so, narratives of what caused the collapse will differ. Narratives on what was 'good' and 'bad' will differ. Keeping the lessons of the past available for new generations to see and learn from without having to do it the hard way.... that will be the next big problem to solve in 100 years.

Everything seems to be going good. More people coming out of poverty.
Manned Mars mission.

Lot of confusion and inner conflicts, civil wars. Energy crisis, lack of resources and affects of pollution can be directly seen. Newly industrialized nations have failed because of that.
Some breakthrough technologies like AI.

A dystopia.
