New Years Eve a waste of money?

So, I don't have a problem with New Years Eve in general, but when I see how much money people spend on fireworks, I get speechless.
The average amout of money people spend on fireworks where I live is 300-400 Euros (per head)!
That's a hilarious amount of money. Everyone should rather get an PS4 than this sh*t.
I mean, we have a huge lake where I live and I always go there with my friends. All of us together pay like 50 Euros and that's it. Tell me what you think about this.

How much money do you spend on fireworks?
And would you spend more than 50 Euros / Dollars / W.e. for it?

Party with friends and then having a good time with the gf sounds better than staying in the cold and playing with fireworks.

Not really a tradition to set off fireworks where I live, although some cities do it.

I prefer to spend it with family/friends just hanging out with good food, good alcohol, and the traditional midnight countdown.
