nope I know there are a lot of episodes but you have to watch them all. In the end you will think why were there only 500 :( Don't rush, enjoy..

Though One Piece is older than Naruto.

Anyways, in my case, I decided to skip all the fillers. But that isn't a good option for you, because you haven't read the manga, so you don't know what to skip. Nonetheless, people told me that One Piece fillers are amazing, so it might not be such a bad thing that you watch the fillers aswel

I did it because the Manga was on hiatus and I wanted to try out the animation. And since there are about 500 episodes, I decided to watch only those whose plot, characterisation and original drawings were written by Oda.
You really should check out the Navarone / G-8 arc. Eventhough it was a filler (it was my favorite arcxd) It's after the skypedia arc, episode 196-206.

i say skip the fillers if you want to get into the main story line... reading the manga is always a good idea. you can't go wrong with one piece.
