16-year-old Naruto Uzumaki sat in the dark blue corvette with his father staring blankly out the window at his new school. He had moved from Japan to the U.S. last week. When his mother passed away, his dad left to start a new life. His dad ruffled his hair. "Have a good day son. It's a new day." Naruto faked a smile. He loved his father, but he had no idea how hard it was for Naruto to have a good day when he left all that was important to him. "Okay dad. See ya later." He stepped out of the car and stretched. "I love you!" Naruto raised his hand to show he heard. The car slowly rolled away. He felt like darting down the street after it, but his feet stayed planted on the spot. He sighed dejectedly and turned to the highschool. It loomed menacingly over him, making false threats to swallow him whole. What a friendly school, to welcome him so warmly on his first day as a tenth grader.
His intense blue eyes scanned the crowds, looking for someone he might find an interest in. Someone in particular caught his eye. Mainly because he was heading straight for him. He had light blue hair, and mischevious green eyes. His black shirt was both wrinkled and too big, black jeans were inches below his waist, his rainbow sneakers shrieked with each step. He continued to walk up to Naruto until they were face to face. "Yo. You must be Naruto." Naruto's eyebrows rose slightly. Apparently, news traveled fast in a high school. "Yeah, that's me." The boy grins. "Not what I was expecting but, whatever." Naruto sticks his chin out. No low-life Sasuke-wanna-be was gonna show him up and not have teeth missing. "Believe it!" He grins again."I'm Coden Whister." Want me to show ya around the school?" Naruto shrugged and mumbled something that sounded like 'Sure, why not?' Coden spun on his heel and walked off in a manner that could only be described as swagger. Naruto's eyebrows rose higher and jogged to catch up with his seemingly over confident companion. They weaved in and out of the crowded hallway and stopped in front of a white door. Coden stepped inside and made a notion for Naruto to follow. A thin secretary drummed on the keyboard of a Macintosh computer. "Excuse me Mrs. Skyler, we have a new student today." Mrs. Skyler looked up, adjusted her wire-rimmed glasses, and peered at Naruto. "Ah, yes. Mr. Uzumaki I presume?" Naruto stood up straight. "Yes, ma'am. Naruto, Uzumaki." The skinny secretary studied Naruto. 'He certainly doesn't look like a new student. Have I seen him before?' "Well then, I'll get your schedule dear boy." With that, she waved to two of five seats. "Please sit." Both boys sat with crossed legs. "Mrs. Skyler's real nice." Naruto nodded in agreement. Naruto's thoughts drifted back to his friends in Kahona. A smile tugged at the edges of his mouth, then vanished at the memories. "You alright dude?" Coden looked at Naruto, as if scrutinizing him. Naruto let out the breath he didn't even know he was holding in." Yeah, it's nothing. Don't worry about it." Coden looked incredulous. As luck would have it, Mrs.Skyler stood up and waved a light blue paper in the air.
"Here you are child. Now, hurry to class. Coden will take good care of you." Coden shrugged. "No problem." Naruto rolled his eyes. In the few seconds he'd known this guy it was evident he couldn't even take care of himself. Another fake smile and they were back into the traffic of the hallway. "Now let's see, you have science with me and Amaya first, then P.E., then math-" Naruto groaned. Coden looked up and patted him on the back."It's not so bad. Then Critical Reading, then history with me and Amaya, second lunch, then Technology, then Language Arts...Huh! You have Drama with Amaya and Yukiko!" Naruto gulped. What the heck was drama? A few kids stopped to stare as the pair made their way to science class. A group of girls giggled and waved. Naruto waved back, which earned more giggles. Coden smirked. It seemed he was always smirking. "Ladies man, huh?" Instead of smacking the smirk off his face, Naruto just shrugged "I just waved at them, no big deal." Coden's smirk widened. "Sure, okay." He turned, and Naruto seriously wished he'd smacked him when he had the chance. They finally reached the large classroom. Kids were scattered across the room deep in conversation. Heads turned and the room quieted as they entered. The teacher, a tall man with balding hair peeked over his papers to his class. He spotted the two boys instantly. "Well, what have we here? Two late boys. Tsk tsk tsk, this won't do, especially on the first day of school." Coden sauntered over to the last empty seat next to a girl with silver hair accompanied by black streaks and sat, draping his arm over her shoulder. "I was just takin' the new kid to get his schedule Windscar." The girl shot Coden an icy glare before shoving him out of the chair. "Yeah, right! Anything to avoid punishment for being late to class." The room's walls were instantly bombarded with laughter that quickly died down when Mr. Kei's disapproving gaze swept across the room. "Coden, I told you never to call me that again." As Coden picked himself off the ground, Naruto pulled at the collar of his orange T-shirt and cleared his throat. Mr. Kei motioned to the now empty seat. "Sit there, with Ms. Taisho." The girl smiled warmly at Naruto. Blood crawled up his neck and into his face as he sat next to her. She stuck out her hand. "I'm Amaya." Naruto shook it and gave her a smile in return. His first real smile since his mom died. "Naruto." She reached into her black hand bag, pulled out a Snickers, and placed it in his hand. "Welcome to Go-Nami, Naruto." Class begun, kids turned in their seats to ignore Mr.Kei's daily science lecture. Naruto slipped the candy bar in his pocket. 'Wow,' He thought. 'She reminds me so much of Hinata-chan...' "Hey! Where am I s'posed to sit?" Naruto rolled his eyes... *Thoughts* ---->>:flaw:
