Shounen Jump: Let's get right to the pressing stuff, then. Have you decided how to defeat Madara yet?
Masashi Kishimoto: Aha! I knew that question would come up! It's not that I was completely clueless on how he should be defeated, it's just that I couldn't decide on how to do it at that time. My ideas were all jumbled and some were too abstract to translate onto paper and didn't come out how I planned. It took a little more thinking than some of the other villains, but I know how his downfall will go.
SJ: That's good to hear! We were worried Madara might actually win for a while there!
MK: That's a scary thought! But everybody has a weak point and it will be exploited shortly.
SJ: Have we seen the last of the past Hokage or do they have more to show us?
MK: That's a bit of a tough question. They certainly aren't finished yet and they have more tricks up their sleeve, but it will be Naruto and Sasuke taking the lead from this point. It is their time to shine now and they will be the ones responsible for stopping Madara. So, it's a bit of both, I suppose...
SJ: Speaking of those two, when is their big fight gonna take place? Or is it still in the works at all?
MK: Oh, it's for sure still coming up but I don't think it will be in the context most people are expecting. I'm going to make a few twists and turns and some shocking events will unfold for both of them. It's gonna be big and it's gonna be memorable. I promise you that.
SJ: Care to spoil any of it for us?
MK: -laughs- I'd rather not. I want to see everyone's reactions when it happens and what sort of impact it'll make on the readers.
SJ: We respect that. Moving on, how are the other Leaf shinobi doing? It's been a little while since we checked in on them.
MK: They will be appearing shortly as well, I haven't forgotten about them. They are deadlocked in a battle with the enemy, but they will play a pivotal role in things to come as well. It all ties into the upcoming events I have on the way.
SJ: Do you have any regrets about NARUTO so far? Anything you couldn't show that you wish you had or vice versa?
MK: Regret is a strong word. I don't regret anything I've done in the sereis, but there are some things I wish I could have expanded on and explained better. Please don't get me started on Sakura though! -crew member laughter-
SJ: Care to share any of those instances with us?
MK: Well, Itachi's spirit weapons come to mind. I didn't get much chance to give them the proper introduction they deserve and show why they were the ultimate. And it comes off a bit paradoxical at this point. I also would have liked to show more of Hiruzen and why he was compared to the greats like Hashirama during his youth. Hidan was also meant to have some genjutsu skills to compliment his arsenal and I had bigger plans for Edo Akatsuki, but time was crunching and I was rushed. Not everything has turned out perfect, but I am very satisfied with it altogether.
SJ: As are we and the rest of your readers, we're sure! There's a break coming up in Shounen Jump! for holidays. How are you going to spend that time?
MK: -big smile- Sleeping mostly. And spending time with my family. I still have some things to take care of for the manga with your spoiler campaign, but I have a good head start. I want to spend this time relaxing.
SJ: Anything you want to say to your readers before we go?
MK: Be like Itachi! Itachi is perfect! -crew and everyone laughs- no, no... Thank you for reading my work and for all your kind words... Itachi Solo's! -more laughter-
