I think the nue is a tailed beast created by a figure stronger than kaguya. As we see in Sarada gaiden there were someone she even feared. I think they arrived on earth and like kaguya hagoromo and hamura beat them.

Unlike kaguyas tailed beast chakra that was formed with yin and yang I think hamura created these tailed beasts from yin and wuji. That's why we see the nue have the special ability of sucking chakra.

I think a special theme they'll follow with these set of tailed beasts is use Chinese mythology since hyuga are rooted in Chinese mythology. That's why I think one of the new tailed beasts we will see is the 5 tailed leopard.

Also another theme was talking tailed beasts inspiration from journey to the west like son holy for four tails and white dragon horse for 5 tails.

So I think we will get a pig tailed beast.

No all that was stated waa they created a technique to use the nue as a weapon it was never stated if the nue was created by them

Also it seems toneri might know some stuff about the nue and it's dimension suggesting it predates the village and is correlated to hamura

We will get a confirmation when we see it do a bijuu dama or stated if it is or isn't

This is what I got from it too, that the nue was created by root... it was probably to see if they could make a "bijuu" weapon

We haven't even seen metal lees team they could easily be introduced and I think it's stated the first arc of the anime is suppose to be canon
