No co-op in Battlefield 4
So far we’ve only seen the singleplayer portion of Battlefield 4 — all 17 minutes of it. DICE and EA are opting to start with the singleplayer unveiling, just as they did with BF3. While the player assumes the role of a soldier in a squad in Battlefield 4, there won’t be a any co-op feature, DICE confirmed.

In a recent interview (via Shacknews), DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson said that they cut co-op from Battlefield 4 so that they can focus more on the singleplayer and multiplayer.

DICE showcased the Battlefield 4 singleplayer campaign in new screenshots and a long, 17-minute gameplay video taking the player through the first missions in the game. The singleplayer showcased the new visuals in the game, powered by Frostbite 3, and showed a much more open-ended kind of gameplay compared to the campaign in BF3. Hopefully DICE will showcase the Battlefield 4 multiplayer portion before E3.

As for co-op, we’re sure most gamers won’t be too disappointed by the lack of co-op in Battlefield 4. BF3 featured co-op, which was, just as the whole singleplayer campaign, not that good. Most played the co-op because it allowed them to unlock a few weapons for use in multiplayer.

GameStop: Battlefield 4 will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox 720
Battlefield 4 pre-orders are in full swing at various retailers around the world. EA’s Origin offers two pre-order bonuses, Walmart is throwing in a free copy of BF3 with a Battlefield 4 pre-order, and GameStop has their own pre-orders going on at the moment.

But so far, gamers can only pre-order Battlefield 4 on current generation systems — PC, PS3, Xbox 360. DICE refused to talk about next-gen consoles and there was no indication that the game was coming to the PS4 and Xbox 720. Until now.

In a detailed email to its members regarding the Battlefield 4 pre-order, GameStop reveals that the game is scheduled for release this Fall on “PC, current generation and next generation platforms”. If there really is a next-gen version of Battlefield 4, GameStop and retailers would be some of the first parties to know.

It seems like a no-brainer to release Battlefield 4 on next-generation platforms. Both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox 720 will run on PC-based hardware, meaning porting games to the platforms will be fairly easy.

Sony and Microsoft both have embargoes and NDAs with developers and publishers on what they can and cannot say about their upcoming platforms, which is likely the reason we’re not officially seeing any Battlefield 4 pre-orders on PS4 and Xbox 720.

Battlefield 4 is currently available for pre-order at various games retailers around the globe. The pre-order bonus includes a free copy of the first Battlefield 4 DLC, called “Drone Strike Expansion Pack“.
