neji's death?

usually when someone dies in Naruto, what they failed at will be accomplished by the person they last talked to. Asuma-Shikamaru, Minato+Kushina-Naruto, Jiraiya-Naruto. So if Neji's purpose was to protect Hinata, isn't that role passed onto Naruto? or am i just too 'out there'?
