Yep thats exactly what the title says. Now i know that its naruto's dream to become hokage, but also ever since series 1, kishi hasnt bothered with most of the rookie's from the chunnin exam.
Now currently, the only ninja's strong enough or have been recommended for the hokage position who have an affiliation with Konoha are;
Kakashi
Gai
Shikamaru
Naruto
Sasuke
Kakashi was recommended for the hokage position until Danzo got it. The problem with kakashi is that, if he was to become hokage he wouldve been the weakest hokage in the history of the leaf, simply because he has reached his peak and he still isnt strong enough.
With gai, although he can use ninjutsu he chooses not to for whatever reason and although like kakashi he is one of the strongest ninja's the leaf has, he also isnt strong enough. Tobi basically mocked both of them, calling them maggots and to some extent he is right.
They are at their hight of their power, but still not strong enough. Now that we have established that kakashi and gai are at their hight of their power, but still arent strong enough, ill discuss shikamaru, naruto and sasuke.
Asuma claimed that Shikamaru has the potential to become hokage. Personally i do not believe it. He is very smart, dont get me wrong and although he hasnt reached his prime, i dont see him being strong enough to become hokage. Maybe in the future he could be one of the elders who advice the hokage as i feel this would best suit the type of person he is;
Now its Naruto's turn. We all know that naruto is more than strong enough to become the hokage, but strength alone isnt what is required to become hokage, as itachi said. Also naruto mightve shown intelligent combat feats in battle but he still lack sense out of battle and this is what part of being hokage is all about. He has got the power, but not the brain. He is actually the opposite of Shikamaru in a way. Also we know that in order to be in contention of the hokage title you need to become a Jonin who has been given a team to lead. Basically you need to go up the rankings, from academy student to jonin and naruto is still stuck on genin.
He has got the strength of a kage, but he still needs to take the exams to graduate onto the next rank, he still lacks many of the basics of being hokage. Not to forget is isnt the type to sit indoors looking outside through a window.
Now ive showed you that kakashi and gai are at their prime and still not strong enough. Shikamaru is smart, but lacks power. Naruto has power, but lacks intelligence outside of battle.
Im going to explain why sasuke couldve been the perfect hokage. Sasuke has mastery in ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu and is currently one the of strongest. Unlike naruto, he is actually intelligent and has called a genius by many in the series. He has all the necessary requirements to become a hokage, but he also has his downfalls. Firstly if he was to become good again and konoha accepted him, they still wouldnt make him hokage. He has done too many wrongs for the citizens of konoha to accept him as hokage, but also due to his personality hokage would suit him. He is abit of a loner. Lets not forget he is also a uchiha, the chances of him becoming a hokage were slimmed the moment he was born an uchiha.
So now ive shown you why all the people above arent suited for the hokage title. Question is who is?. The answer is Neji Hyuga. During the chunnin exam he was arguably the strongest genin who received praise from Sarutobi, kakashi, Hiashi and gai and if it wasnt to the plot naruto wouldve lose to him.
Praised by both Sarutobi and kakashi;
Praised by both Gai and Kakashi;
Praised by Hiashi. We know that the Neji is in the branch family and they serve the head family. The branch family, do not have access to the hyugan's scroll techniques and yet neji was able to use high level techniques which you could say he invented because he didnt know about such techniques;
Neji's chakra control is seriously underrated. For somebody to have such chakra control along with such talent and intelligence he is a genjutsu type. He demonstrates his chakra control at the age of 13/14 in the form of kaiten;
Sasuke who is another genius demonstrated a similar feat at the age of 16 in the form of chidori nagashi which is very similar to neji's kaiton. Not only because its a defensive move but because he releases chakra from his entire body;
Do i believe Neji has more potential than Naruto and Sasuke?, YES!!!. But due to the plot he hasnt been shown enough. Anyway now that ive showed you that Neji has more potential than Naruto and Sasuke ill show you why he can should become the next hokage.
In the series 1 Neji was very similar to Sasuke in personaltiy but after naruto changed him. He now has the personality of a hokage. He has the talent of a hokage, he hasnt reached his prime at all. If he was hokage, he would have access to the vast ninjutsu scrolls that the hokages have access to and for somebody who can create his own moves that already existed, ive no doubt that he would be able to learn tons from the scrolls and maybe the head family would aslo give him access to more of the hyuga techniques which the branch family dont have.
He has the talent, great personality, intelligence, potential and currently a jonin. Im certain he already has his own team and he is a sensei. He is already ahead of all the potantial candidates ive named imo;
