kishi probably at the time had a general path for either sasuke or neji depending on who the fans preffered as an antagonist, but the chose sasuke.

If this was true naruto sasuke and neji would have been on a team... it was sasuke from the start

His potential was always limited. He wasn't a Uchiha or a jinchuriki just a Hyuuga with Byakugan.

See, this is just my opinion, but the Byakugan has the potential to be on-par with the MS at the very least. They have the ability to manipulate chakra that is further above anybody else. All chakra is energy, thus if you get a ninja that is Sannin-level and make him a hyuuga with byakugan, they would be a dominant force, arguably as dominant as the MS.

Kishi is just a fanboy for the Uchiha, and he be hatin.

Neji was a good character even when he was cocky and said that his fate was to defeat Naruto. But he developed , he changed his ways and became the only jounin from konoha 11.
