Need Sig or Avatar Tutorial for GIMP

I've been experimenting with GIMP for awhile now, I'm not too bad, but everything seems...bland that I do, I only know how to make borders and such, and blend colours and Blurs and stuff..but my backgrounds have always been so...meh.

Does anybody have a good source of tutorials that I can watch?
I know searching Youtube and Google could do it, but if any of you know any good tutorials, please share
