We seem to think of ourselves as enlightened, yet we ignore the obvious.

I just wanted to open with that statement before I present my case. Maybe "we" (humanity) don't see ourselves as enlightened, but we do think that we're progressing towards it. Medicine is one of those areas we view as advancing, I'm just not thinking that's a good assumption is all. Medicine might be advancing, but I really think it's doing so the wrong way.

Labs are literally creating compounds that don't exist in nature because they're unaware of the natural remedy. They aren't willing to invest the time and money to find the natural, harmless cure or even preventative. The extensive testing that would need to go on to find the proper one would be enormous. I'm talking about finding the proper mixture of herbs or whatever, it just isn't friendly to the pockets of the corporate executives, they'd rather get a new plane, or maybe a few yachts.

It's a lot easier when they can concoct something that does what they want it to, you don't even have to go outside. Don't need to spend years in testing to get a good formula. Nah, you can just test it a few times to see if it's working, then let the general public find out what this is going to do to them in twenty years. WTF? o_O Five months later you see this ad: "Have you or a loved one you know taken..." Yep, you know the one...happens every time. Did I miss the Lunesta one? I was so looking forward to it. ^_^

Now, I'd like to present a real life case that just happened an hour ago. My mom was talking about her headache while I was visiting, and she was about to take aspirin for it. I told her I had an herbal painkiller (Kratom, it's legal in the US and I imagine most anywhere), and since she's more into herbal cures that was an immediate go. I called her just a minute ago and asked her how she felt after taking three pills, and she said the pain just went away completely in no time, and she was just real relaxed.

How many people can say they'd feel better about taking Kratom, a natural and legal plant, over aspirin or Tylenol which is made in a factory? I mean heck, not long after I took some myself I was drinking a beer. If it was something from a factory I'd think twice about consuming any alcohol.

Just an example, but this is what got me thinking, and I thought I'd make a really long ass thread about it that no one will read. At least I got a chance to practice typing, I miss my keyboard... *looks around* good, they all left at this point...now it's just you and me, keyboard... *slow dance* I've been working really long hours in my dad's headshop, and today we got in our very first shipment of Kratom. The reason people are doing Kratom is because in strong enough doses it gives the effect that like a percocet would, just without the danger and the addiction. You can get addicted to ice cream though, it's just that this herb doesn't have a physical addiction attached to it. You can get a serious oxycontin-like high, but this isn't hurting you with repeated use, nor is it something you feel like you need at all. For ma' ganja chieftains out there, drop like 4-5 pills, wait twenty minutes, then smoke a bowl. It activates it like you wouldn't believe, leaves you with a real nice buzz and you're also energetic too, so it's not like you're falling asleep bombed, you're sitting up enjoying this body buzz while blastin' bad-guys in that new game you're excited about. Proud Mary keep on burnin'.
...

*ahem* Yes, sorry... As I was saying, I'd love to hear the other side of this argument, even if it's just playing devil's advocate. ^_^ Maybe I don't know enough and there's some reason why unnatural shit has to be used, but honestly I think everything we need is growing out of the ground or in the ground in one form or another. All that needs to happen is someone needs to get their head outta their backside, it don't belong there. Lol

There's nothing a good cup of tea can't fix. So I vote for that.

They both work hand in hand. Limiting yourself to one form of treatment is silly.

I like pills. I take 4 at every meal. And I haven't ever been sick so I know I'm doing right.

Hmm ever heard this before

"Dont take while pregnant or about to become pregnant. This product might cause dizzyness, fatique, drowsiness, swelling in the pelvic region and loss of eyesight. Also depression might occur and thoughts of suicide. If symptoms persists please see a doctor."

I shit you not this is on medicine commercials following NBC nightly news at 6. They dont even say it fast anymore. Now they pleasently tell you everything. Just watch and be prepared to be horrified.

There is a limit to what natural drugs can do.
That's when pharmaceuticals become necessary.

I haven't seen a doctor in so many years I've lost count, but it's a ridiculous number at this point I'm sure. I don't take anything for any symptoms at all, I'm 25 though, so maybe in another 50 years I'll need some medicine of some kind, but I'll die a natural death at 85 (I've decided I don't want to go past 85, so I've told my heart to stop ticking just before I turn 86. rofl)

800 years ago, you would have been one of the few lucky men to live past 30 years old.

Today, thanks to medicine, we live beyond 70, some even up to 100, 110, 120.

Yes, medicine is advancing us, no matter what you say.

The honest last time I went to the doctors was when I twisted my knee. That was last year, never gave me any pills, I don't take any, never will. I don't like medicine, I think it weakens me.

You do also realize that the thing that's extending our lifespan is natural, right? It's just bacteria, guys. lol

You do realize that in the middle ages, they were only able to use natural items? They didn't have access to the technology that we have today to create such medicine. They didn't have the tools we have today to perform successful operations. They only had what they can make from household products which were nothing but natural.

There is nothing natural about how humans live today. We created the additional 40+ years to our lifespan thanks to medicine.

The plague shortened people's lifespans exceptionally. It wasn't just all throughout time people died at 40, otherwise evolution would have kicked in and we would have never gotten past 40.

Hahaha clearly you know nothing of the medical world then. Living to 40 in the middle ages is like living to 120 for us. Life expectancy for humans worldwide in the 1900 was still a whopping 35. It was thanks to advancements in antibiotics to help fight infections and vaccinations to help build immunities that vastly improved our lifespans in the 1970s and up to ~60-65 years. Today, thanks to that medice further advancing, we're seeing countries getting new life expectancies such as Japan with ~84 years of age average.

Please do not insult the medical world like that again.

Oh...wow...ummm...I really don't know how to address this...

Can someone please show him the way out of town?...

I'm sorry, but bro, pharmacies have not played a single part in how long people live, not at all. To say that is like saying the Nazi were good guys that were trying to help humanity. I don't even...

I should say that if you had a legit argument I would address it, but I really don't want to give a history lesson to you right now, I'm enjoying my high, man. lol

I would love to hear how natural herbs played the biggest role in increasing our life expectancy.
