People will hate me for this, but I like the Madara/Obito arc better than the Pain arc. To me, the Pain arc was way too slow, and the art was more subdued. Madara is a very entertaining villain (attitude + one-liners), and Obito is basically a better-written version of Nagato. Say what you will about the annoying inconsistencies in Obito's character, he still has a way more developed backstory, a better explanation for his motives, and had a more believeable redemption. Obito also has better ties as an antithesis to the main characters.

The problem was that the War Arc prior to Madara joining was mostly crap, with half-assed, non-threatening filler battles with no tension. Plus the Kaguya fight was badly-executed, and likewise felt too "easy." Finally, Madara actually became less threatening as a Juubi Jin; he never really fought seriously. Obito was a far more threatening JJ. I guess Kishi was always building up to his Kaguya fight, and never intended to give Madara an all-out battle, but it's a shame.

Are you all smoking the finest herbs ?

It was after the final arc in the manga he reached his peak.

He had the best chakra control, even able to match to each persons unique signature, could make resengans with one hand.

Turn into sage mode at a moments notice

etc, etc, it definitely wasn't the pain arc lol

I liked the whole Jiraiya, Itachi and Pain arcs (Jiraiya the Gallant, Uchiha Brothers and Inv. of Pain) , but everything after that felt rushed to me. Still decided to stick along though.

Kishi could have done a One-Two year timeskip after the Pain arc and it would not have hurt the story at all. Naruto and Sasuke becoming godlike in a matter of months and hours into the war seems far–fetched. Kishi could have done multiple time skips in the war (ex.Month or Weeks timeskip) in order to keep it fresh, but it felt dragged out (Almost 1/3 of the story was a war and again it was only two days)
So true! That would have been more natural and way better.

The Naruto series in its prime was early War arc. After the mask came off it went a little poo poo. These anime fillers are just making it worse.

Prime Naruto is RSM Kaguya Arc
