Naruto's last name?

I was wondering. Since Naruto is half Uzamaki because of his mother. Why does he have his mother's last name. Shouldn't his last name be Namikaze like his father's?

Anyway Naruto is named Uzumaki, because Minato had a lot of enemies (no wonder with him being Hokage and being so strong and all that) If his enemies had heard of Naruto Namikaze, they would instantly know he had a son and would try to kidnap him. But Uzumaki Naruto won't ring a bell with his enemies, unless they saw a picture of Naruto and connected the dots with how he looks.
So it's for his safety that Naruto got his mother's last name
