Naruto's Family Identity

Does anybody knows why Naruto's family identity was kept secret?

Was the 4th in some kind of problem that could very well affect Naruto or was it only to allow Naruto to live some kind of normal life? With the kyubi inside is very hard to have a normal life. I really have no clue.

For all I know, his father was trying to protect him from something but do not know exatly what. Any substantial information out there?

Naruto does not know and I believe most of the people in the village just know him as the kid with the demon fox inside, not the 4th Hokages' son. By now, evrybody knows him as the kid that have fought or saved the village.

1-Protection: Outside Konoha the 4th was not well liked. Epecially by the Hidden Rock Village. They didn't want to paint a target on his back.
2-They didn't want him to get special treatment or favors being the 4th's son. They wanted him to grow up not being spoiled.
3- To protect the Namikaze name: The 4th sealing the Kyuubi in his own could seem like a selfish attempt to put power in his family

true, and in return naruto has helped them so much - eliminating S class ninjas, the demon brothers, rescuing the Kazekage, hence furthering diplomatic relations.....etc.etc.

its not that konoha is selfish but it is some kind of stereotype that if a person is a jinchuuriki he is also dangerous or scary like what happened to all jinchurikis when they were young.

I think that most likely their clan was annihilated through various events. Most likely the kyuubi attack is what destroyed most of the clan.

Iruka did not look at Naruto as a normal kid at first. And did minato even have a clan? I thought he was a kid by himself like Naruto.

Cause MInato was afraid of his death during the use of the "DEMON SEAL" and ran in panic searching for a kid in which he could seal the fox. But since Naruto was his son, and was lying not in a bed(hidden somewhere in the flat) but in the centre of big shiny hall, he decided to stop running in panic and then sealed it in Naruto.

Then he realised, "damn, tat's my son", but the Shinigami already sucked his soul.

So some really cool ninjas heard that "damn" and decided to not tell anyone that Naruto is 4th son, cuz 4th may be angry then.
They thought 4 was not happy about that he sealed the fox in Naruto.
But well, we'll never know if he was, neither it's possible to know just because MInato died a second later after realising what he did. Prolly, you couldnt feel happy during that second...
