Has this been posted yet here?
Kishi is being nice to Ikemoto. And Ikemoto deserves better, sort of.

Here is also Sawyer's review on Episode 18 and his reaction to the interview.

It's a reboot, not a sequel.

Ah yep I heard the same thing.

Basically Ikemoto didn't want to continue Naruto for Kishimoto. They convicted him it was a "reboot" so he agreed. By the time he realized it was in fact a sequel it was too late and Ikemoto was already dedicated to the project.

From what I understand though, even though Kishi seems to shade Boruto in a couple interviews, he did want Ikemoto to be published in his own right. Ikemoto has been working with Kishi since Chapter 6 I believe and helped design Haku and Zabuza. So Kishi said that if Ikemoto couldn't be published writing his own work, then he would hand over the Naruto reigns to him so he could be published.

Ultimately I think the two have a ton of respect for each other.

I feel sorry for Ikemoto if the backlash toward the Boruto manga is really pressuring the current creators. I do hope for Boruto to find its strongest path soon.

Ikemoto said the reason he didn't want to pick up the mantle and work on Boruto was because the "sequel" would be compared to original. It sucks but that's what's happening now.

Honestly, Ikemoto has been working with Kishi for so long that storywise they might just end up being very similar to eachother. So comparisons are inevitable.

Kishi: Well in terms of art, I think you've surpassed me.

I really don't see what Kishi sees in his art but the part about the slippers in the interview was funny, lol. He designed Zabuza and Haku well but his choice with Sarada really bother me. I haven't given the story a chance yet but it sounds like the poor guy was tricked into it.

The art is definitely a letdown but tolerable still, in infrequent doses. I hope the story resolves into a strong plot to deem itself worthy of the "reboot" tag.

His art is very "authentic" as Kishi said, but I don't think it was the right style for Boruto.

Boruto is supposed to be a short manga. So maybe he will get his chance if it does enough business.

A reboot so soon after the series probably wouldn't suit the publishing company or anime company... And Ikemoto isn't getting any younger either- maybe that's why he didn't take much risk rejecting the proposal after the changes.

I think in terms of creativity ikemoto has a broader range but I prefer kishimoto art style

Everybody seems to hate Ikemoto's art, but it has kinda grown on me (at least when it comes to the kids and to original characters). The only ones that I find somewhat problematic are the adult designs (adults who aren't Ikemoto's own characters).

For example, I don't like Konohamaru's afro in the manga. It's probably not even meant to be seen as an afro, but nevertheless, it looks like one and it doesn't suit Konohamaru. Konohamaru's anime hair is much better.

He also messed up Hinata, and don't even get me started with Sasuke. Curly hair is not for him. Fortunately, his Sasuke has gotten better in recent chapters, but it's still not on Kishi's level.

If Ikemoto really wants to set himself apart and not have it compared with Naruto the editors and ikr should have just made another and completely new plot/story angle. There's a rich and extensively developed world Kishi created and we are still in the Leaf following the same basic characters as before.

Should have used a different village, different protagonist different and new Jutsu etc. guess they wanted to play it safe I suppose and stick to what's working?
