Naruto will have another Opening/Ending

One tidbit of news that has been announced is a there will be a new opening and ending for Naruto Shippuden. Naruto Shippuden Opening 20 will be titled “Empty Heart” and it will be performed by Japanese singer/songwriter Anly. Naruto Shippuden Ending 39 will be titled “Departure Song” and performed by the Japanese idol group Ayumikurikamaki. It has not yet been revealed when this new opening and ending will debut...

Quoted directly from the Saiyan Island article. I'm personally glad to hear this. Opening 19 does not seem like a fitting end for the series, 20 seems more like a complete number, plus the contents of the ending are not that impressive either. I would be fine with the ending we have now wrapping up the series though...even if what I would have really liked is the previous ending finishing off the series.

Regardless, what are your thoughts on this piece of news?

On the one hand it seems fitting to have another opening/closing for the finale of the series... on the other hand this is something that should have happened prior to the last episode of the canon story line which brings me to the conclusion that this opening is made for the start of a filler arc beginning after next weeks double episode.

There is no other way this anime can rightly end IMO. Even Soul Eater and FMA played the 'use the original op/ed as the final episode ending credits.

They'd be missing a trick to not exploit such nostalgia with something as long-running as Naruto.

I think its more wishful thinking than anything, honestly. In the end there is too much in Naruto for them to pick one ending or opening and place it there and please everyone who watches it. I mean, there is no universally liked ending in Naruto, though I could make an argument for SIGN or Silhouette filling those positions in the openings' case.

Universally then there's fighting dreamers and heroes come back but obviously Wind would be a universal crowd pleaser as well as neat.

I don't agree with OP 13 that much, but I can definitely see OP5 as being a favourite. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it would be perfect seeing as it is centered around saying goodbye.

Nope, it's been confirmed that the next episode after the double episode is canon (chapter 699).

That's what I said XD The final episode (or two episodes, depending on how you look at it) airs this week, however I doubt a new opening would be made just for one episode. So I assume this is in prep for a new arc after the canon ends.

Omg this so bad. They should leave opening 6 to Sasuke vs itachi arc even tho it is the best opening imo. But they should use ending 21 so bad. Fits really good and is beautiful
