There have been many moments in this manga where they have surpassed one another back and forth. Naruto only started catching up to Sasuke the moment he learned KM and then he began to slowly equal and surpass the Sauce. Sasuke attained PS and immediately surpassed KM Naruto. Naruto took control of Kurama and surpassed Sasuke again. Sasuke received some power from Hagoromo and surpassed Naruto again. Naruto also received power from Hagoromo and immediately took the lead once more. At this point on Sasuke's powers are still a mystery.

Once Naruto attained BM and befriended Kurama and the other tailed beasts then Naruto got more fans, More banwagoners And more fake trolls that don't even like Naruto. It really does speaks volumes for this fandom.
