So everyone knows Naruto is OP as hell now, coming from the guy who was hated by the whole village to the saviour of the shinobi alliance time and time again. Naruto was supposed to be the ''underdog'' that became victorious against all odds (having the Kyuubi in him), but what people forget is that the Kyuubi is the same reason he's OP as hell and can even do half the things he's doing. Sure he's worked his ass off to get sage mode, and tame the Kyuubi and also TNJ the Kyuubi into giving him BM, but all this wouldn't have happened if there was no Kyuubi in him in the first place.

Sasuke, Madara, Itachi are great shinobis mostly because of their sharigans (note I said mostly, not solely), the moment you are born in the Uchiha clan, you are considered 'elite'. The moment Naruto was born and had the Kyuubi placed in him, he was bound to be great. So how was he ever an underdog?. He's the child of prophecy, so he was always bound to be great, it didn't matter how, but he was always going to be great, that doesn't sound much like an underdog to me, he's the child that the sage of six paths talked about, so he was even bound to be OP as hell ever since the time of the sage of six paths. Minato for example was an underdog that found his way up there, wasn't born into any special clan but found a way to make himself OP as hell without any tailed beast or Kekkei Genkai.

Go back and watch the fight between Naruto and Neji, Naruto was supposed to be the ''underdog'' in that fight and he was losing, guess what he does?. Exactly, takes power from the Kyuubi :|, how is that even relatively fair?, he hadn't even tamed the kyuubi then (but that's not the point of the whole thread). It's simple nobody stood a chance against him (amongst his friends) as long as he had the freaking tailed beast inside him

He was the underdog because he always had the lowest grades in the academy etc.

Underdog because he lacked skill and brains, not power.

Yes, he was. But he has ascend to the very top due to his determination. So he is not an underdog anymore, he can't stay like that forever.

He was never an underdog No matter How you slice it.

He was just a lazy moron who spent time for shit like painting Hokage statues. He supposedely works for a week or 2 when needs another boost or was leeching on Kurana chakra when he was a kid. And had op genes who is a child of prophecy; bound to be something huge.

Someone like him spouting all those words and beating Neji was utterly contradictous.

He was the underdog, but he's worked his a** off to be acknowledged by everyone and be counted among the most strongest shinobi of all time. U_U

nope, nobody was a match for him right from the chunin exams. He was simply going to get Kurama's power and defeat all of them if the fight had continued

underdog [ˈʌndəˌdɒg]
n
1. the competitor least likely to win a fight or contest
2. a person in adversity or in a position of inferiority

No matter how you slice it,Naruto part 1 and till the Pain arc was the underdog.

It's true that he had the power & genes with him since the beginning , but he was so the underdog for quite sometime , once he started training & gaining knowledge , things changed .

not having brains doesn't make him underdog, does means he was stupid...

By not having brains I wanted to say not getting good grades, not being able to defeat Sasuke in the school battle, not being able to learn shadow clone etc, etc, which implies that he was underdog.:p

He was considered an underdog because no one knew he was the 4th hokage's and the previouse 9tail jin's son hailing from a the great Uzumaki clan.

Look, here's the definition:

"A competitor thought to have little chance of winning a fight or contest."

You're not seriously telling me that most of his competitors in Part 1 thought he was a great, powerful shinobi?

Just think about how many times Naruto was told he was going to lose the match against Kiba? It must have been about five times in the first couple of pages.

You forget how having the Kyuubi was a burden on him because of which his chakra control was shit . He never excelled at anything and nobody used to even talk to him so he never got any good training at all . He was the underdog for quite some time .

You're right and wrong in a sense.

You're wrong in this sense. In the terms of the Manga, he's an underdog. He wasn't meant to succeed, look how far he's come, yadda yadda yadda.

You're right however, from the outside looking in from this sense. Son of the 4th Hokage, Child of Prophecy, OP genes, The strongest entity just so happens to be inside him etc. That's not an underdog.

I know you can't say this in part 1 or early part 2. It's now that his hard work/determination is paying off that you can say this.
