naruto vs pain explanations please

I been watching anime of the naruto vs pain fight n I need someone to give me a good reasonable explanation for how deva path was able to survive being hit by naruto in 6 tails form with that gigantic rock several times but was defeated by a normal rasegan without naruto being in sage mode or kyubi chakra?

Probably still had enough health. Keep in mind that the bodies are just vessels. And bout that rasengan, Could've just been the final blow to finish pain off.

You make it sound like naruto came in and only used the resengan.

The avatars do not feel pain and they are only useful as long as nagato puts chakra into them.
At that point int he battle naruto got the upper hand.
You also make it sound like the resengan is not a s class technique

Even though the rockbashing was filler, one possible explanation is that the energy it took to make Chibaku Tensei weakened him by a lot.
