Naruto is a better manga/anime. I would like to say, though, that i love DBZ and still watch it to this day. However, it really doesn't have much of a storyline. As a character, i love Goku cuz he's the shit, and Vegeta's awesome (but just those two and their powers/personalities aren't enough to make up for all of DBZ's shortcomings). One really cool thing about DBZ is the power-scale that's set. They have the abilities to blow up entire planets, but in my opinion that doesn't make DBZ any more epic than Naruto. the DBZ manga is like a joke, it's funny and not serious at all and the fights are goofy--almost to the point of being a joke. The anime makes the show and the fights a bit more dramatic, but on both accounts the story simply goes from one guy to fight to anohter guy, as well as going out to other planets and stuff. it's all about being strong, physically strong. Naruto is much deeper and has a hell of a story with plot twists and turns. it is very philosophical, which is one of my favorite things about it. it has well thought out battle strategies (ie Shikamaru), a myriad of techniques--ninjutsu, using all 5 elements + kekkei genkai, Genjutsu, and Taijustsu (as well as summoning techs, Dojutsu, Senjutsu, Sealing techs, Medical techs and Forbidden techs)--as well as better developed characters. Also, in DBZ, things are very black and white. for example, it's very clear who is good and who is evil with the SOLE exception of Vegeta. In Naruto, the line is blurred a bit more. Like Nagato, he seemed super evil but was actually a good guy. we didn't know that until we saw life from his side, through his eyes and the same could be said of Itachi. Overall, i love depth of the characters and their personalities, i like the way they use chakra and how they perform their techniques, and the underlying philosophies that go into all of it

That's the one thing I'll give to Naruto, but only over DBZ, not DB. DB had an incredible plot. DBZ was great as well, but the plot got repetitive over time, so I will say Naruto>DBZ in plot, but not DB.
I agree with this one 200% Dragonball had an amazing plot even presently i still enjoy it. No fillers, flahbacks but the adventures of goku as a young free spirited boy growing up going on adventures alongside his best bud Krillin and fighting awesome well developed characters unlike in its successors where its just so much senseless, seemingly endless fighting of one guy to the next just to boast on strength

Everything was well done in this anime from the story to the individual characters. So yeah, even now dragon ball (NOT DBZ nor GT) is still among my favorites. Dragon ball in my eyes was and is a prodigy anime if u know what i mean.

But as what V1nC3N7 V1c10U5 said

But DB>DBZ>DBZGT was not so much of a good transition.
that i agree with
