First of all I wanna say that even the craziest most removed from reality enemies in Naruto have deep meanings associated with their madness, despite sometimes making them less fully relatable. Also being crazy has nothing to do with intelligence or cleverness.

You don't understand Obito then because he wasn't all about Rin, he didn't even remember that event very well at first. He just recalls it as something that set him down the path he went, but he confirmed that the world wasn't worth salvaging himself while masked. The fact he has this consciousness about him and actually sets out to confirm his own beliefs makes him less crazy than other villains I listed imo.
